WHAT'S GOING ON
IN OUR COMMUNITY?

Faith Partners for Housing

Seniors and Rental Increases

The Columbian (October 25, 2019, "Cascade Park Estates   tenants plead for help") reported on excessive rent increases   going into effect Jan. 1st for the 55-and-older tenants of the mobile   home park. Five years ago the space rent was $500 per month. In   January the rents will increase to $850 per month, for a whopping   70% increase in rent since 2015.

With many seniors living on social security, the result is distraught     seniors selling off valuables and possessions and worrying about   being homeless. Alarmingly, homelessness among seniors grew by   85% according to the 2019 Clark County count.

Faith Partners for Housing ( www.FaithPartners4Housing.org ) is   mobilizing the faith  community to advocate Vancouver and Clark   County governments to stimulate more affordable housing (the   Affordable Housing Fund is one example) by asking churches to   explore and consider building affordable housing on church land and   by working to create a home sharing program.

For more information and to learn how you can help contact Denny   Scott, Faith Partners for Housing, 360-624-1290.
