Happy Valentine’s Day! At OVCEC, we love our members. We look forward to seeing you next week at the Annual Membership Meeting at the Highlands Event Center!

We are also excited to announce the Women in Construction Small Tools Demonstration on March 6. Please see the Events section below for more information.

Guntry Opening Set For March 6 at The Highlands

The first shots at Guntry’s shooting range at The Highlands are set to fire on March 6, but there will also be a chance for the community to come have a blast there in the days before that. An open house for the community is set to happen from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 1, and a second community open house is set for March 2 from noon to 4 p.m.

Constructed by JD&E Construction Services, Guntry will feature 25-yard and 100-yard shooting ranges, an archery room that can transform into a tactical shooting house for law enforcement training, and even a 48-seat restaurant!

Daily Jobsite Inspections

The importance of a daily construction jobsite inspection cannot be overstressed. The daily jobsite inspection is a routine check performed on a construction site to monitor project progress, identify potential safety hazards, check for quality control issues, and address problems promptly. Essentially, with a jobsite inspection, a site manager or competent project professional will:

  • Ensure compliance with building codes,
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications,
  • Ensure safety regulations compliance,
  • Document the day's work progress,
  • Note weather conditions,
  • Note worker presence, and
  • Identify issues or delays encountered on the site.

The benefits of daily construction site inspections include:

  • Early detection of problems: Allows for quick identification and resolution of issues before they escalate.
  • Improved safety: Proactive identification and mitigation of safety hazards.
  • Quality control: Ensures work is being completed to the required standards.
  • Project efficiency: Helps maintain project schedule by addressing potential delays early on.

Every jobsite inspection is different. The inspection can be as little as 5 minutes, or up to an hour, depending on the size of a jobsite. If the jobsite is large, enlist competent persons to assist in evaluating specific areas. Typical components of a daily jobsite inspection include:

  • Initial site assessment: Visual overview of the work area upon arrival.
  • Meeting with site supervisor and any subcontractors: Discussing recent activities and any areas of concern.
  • Walkthrough inspection: Checking for safety hazards like exposed wires, fall risks, improper PPE usage, etc.
  • Equipment checks: Assessing the condition and functionality of tools and machinery.
  • Documentation: Recording observations and corrective actions needed on inspection reports.

Visit the link below for jobsite safety construction checklists furnished by the North Carolina Department of Labor. It contains multiple inspection forms that can be modified.
