Educating the Next Generation

The OVCEC Women in Construction Committee gave a presentation at Magnolia High School this week. The students were able to learn about the history of women in construction, get statistics on women in the industry today, and learn about the benefits of a career in the trades.

Wheeling Gateway Center Project Receives $4.4 Million State Grant

Gov. Jim Justice said the captain of his West Virginia State Police detail is always asking him why he comes to Wheeling so often.


On Tuesday, he came to town to bring a $4.4 million check for a major downtown revitalization project. The AML Economic Revitalization grant is for the Wheeling Gateway Center project, a plan to transform the former Wheeling Inn property into a 20,000-square-foot visitors center.

Form Energy West Virginia Facility Ready for Expansion, Company Says

Only a few weeks after celebrating its Weirton-based manufacturing facility moving into trial production, Form Energy announced Monday it is time to grow even more.



Construction on Form Factory 1 — Form Energy’s high-volume manufacturing facility — began in May 2023, with celebrations of its completion held in September. Company officials announced Monday construction to expand the complex is set to begin in the coming days.

NSC White Paper on MSDs Looks at ‘Non-Physical’ Risk Factors

Work organization, job stress, and other non-physical risk factors “cannot be ignored” when assessing the likelihood of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, according to a new white paper from the National Safety Council.


MSDs include tendinitis, back strains and sprains, and carpal tunnel syndrome. They’re the most common workplace injury and remain the leading cause of worker disability, early retirement, and limitations to gainful employment, NSC says.
