Minnesota groups push for state to allow teens to work on construction sites
Permitting 16- and 17-year-olds to work on construction sites is a logical step, particularly if career tech advocates succeed in getting more schools to provide educational opportunities in the trades. Instead of working on mockups in an offsite facility, students would get a real taste of what it's like to work in the industry.
And the appetite for this sort of training is there. Since Louisiana implemented its revamped Jump Start program in 2014, which allows students to gain credits and credentials in dozens of industries, the percentage of high schoolers earning career diplomas has increased to 23% in 2018 from just 2% in 2013, .

Despite market growth, contractors should still 'recession proof '
Sometimes, the longer a good thing lasts, the louder rumblings get that a reality check could be around the corner, and construction industry economics is no exception. However, it’s smart to prepare for a wide variety of economic conditions, and that’s one of the messages in management consulting company
FMI Corp.’s 2019 forecast
for the engineering and construction sectors.

TAUC's 2019 Union Craft Labor Supply Survey is looking for your insights!
The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC) opened the “2019 TAUC Union Craft Labor Supply Survey” on Monday, January 14, 2019 to collect responses from industry professional across the nation. This marks the fifth (5th) year of research for TAUC in sampling the Union Construction and Maintenance Industry on the current and prospective supply of Union Craft Labor.
The purpose of the survey is simple, to determine if there will be a union labor shortage and where it may occur. I don’t have to explain how vitally important it is that we identify these issues in advance so that industry partners can attempt to address them before they occur. Therefore, I am urging you to not only complete the 2019 Union Craft Labor Supply Survey but also to distribute it to your colleagues, and other industry partners that can help all of us better prepare for the future. The link below can be used to complete the survey as well as be shared with other organizations and industry professionals:
Once the survey has been closes and the results analyzed, TAUC will make the final report available to everyone in our industry. For access to our previous year’s survey results please feel free to visit
Thank you for your support and stay tuned for the results!

Construction Companies Can Do More to Improve Safety and Prevent Injuries and Deaths
Training workers to operate equipment and do hazardous jobs safely is the critical firststep. Verifying each worker’s training credential can go a long way toward improved safety. The worker’s photo ID card can be enhanced to provide a fast, easy way to do just that. An ID card (or an enhanced wristband) tied into a training-records database can help.
