Glad and grateful for the opportunity to engage with you.
This month our focus is on networking. Networking has always been the backbone of OWIT, connecting professionals and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds and industries across the globe. As we continue to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of international trade, forging meaningful connections has never been more important.

Every other month, a different chapter will be highlighted as part of OWIT International's chapter spotlight program. Within this 60 min program, the presenting chapter will share their programs, achievements, initiatives, and any other crucial factors that have kept them together as a chapter. Attendees will not only gain knowledge from the presentation but also have the opportunity to ask questions.
The benefits of doing this as the spotlighted chapter, you will gain global visibility, attract new members, and have opportunities for collaboration within OWIT as we strengthen OWIT's global footprint.

On Tuesday, June 27, the #SUMARSE project was launched, integrated by Fedexpor, HIAS Ecuador and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, which seeks to promote the development and socioeconomic integration of vulnerable people through the linkage of the export sector and the academy.
Felipe Ribadeneira, Executive President of Fedexpor, highlighted the importance of these projects that strengthen both the export sector and vulnerable groups that enter Ecuador in search of employment opportunities.
Gabriela Urresta Chevalier, Vice President of Organizational Development Fedexpor, explained the importance of the US market for the exportable supply of processed foods from Ecuador. In addition, she detailed the processes, benefits and major objectives that the project has until 2025.
The #SUMARSE project is built on 3 components: labor inclusion, the creation of development networks and job creation, that will benefit more than 20 exporting companies, and approximately 450 people from vulnerable groups.

Empowering Women-Owned Businesses

The first photo collage is from the event that took place on Friday, June 23, 2023. OWIT was well represented - both WITLA and WITOC were present. It was called “Empowering Women-Owned Businesses For Global Expansion” and it was organized by the Global Diversity Export Initiative of the U.S. Department of Commerce, led by Terry Batch. There were two Deputy Assistant Secretaries attending: Kendee Yamaguchi, Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Field, International Trade Administration & Camille Richardson, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Middle East and Africa, International Trade Administration (also WELTI Initiative). Lilia Navarrete from WITLA and Simona Racek from WITOC both spoke at the event. There were 20 women speakers at this incredible event. The program booklet is included, so our OWIT members can read about and connect with all the speakers if they see a common interest. | |
WITOC 27th Annual Seaport Operations Tour &
Harbour Cruise Luncheon

The second photo collage is from our glorious “WITOC 27th Annual Seaport Operations Tour & Harbor Cruise Luncheon” that took place this week on June 28, 2023. We toured the Port of Long Beach, and we were thrilled to reintroduce the WITOC Port Tour Signature Event to our community, since we were not able to offer it during the pandemic. We had 43 attendees, from which 6 traveled from out of state to join our event (5 from Chicago and 1 from Wisconsin). It was a big success and greatly appreciated by the community. We will share more information on LinkedIn about it this weekend. | |
