Hello everyone, we hope you are well. Welcome to our first OYYAM News of 2016!

Thanks to all of you who came out to our first-ever Leaders' Luncheon on January 9; it was great to see so many people there. It was a spirit-filled day marked by wonderful talks by guest speaker Tricia Tembreull of Life Teen, a delicious lunch, and some great networking and fellowship. A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus councils and Catholic Women's League councils who helped sponsor the event. It was certainly a blessed way to start off the year.

We're looking forward to many gatherings, training opportunities, and events coming up in the next few weeks. So please continue reading so you're in the loop.

Feel free to drop us a line at the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office anytime...we'd love to serve you!

God Bless and Be God's,
OYYAM staff
OYYAM Training at the Winter Institute

We're pleased to offer two half-day courses at the Winter Institute this Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Holy Cross Regional Secondary School in Surrey.
  • Promoting Your Youth Ministry (Clayton Imoo):  You are doing some great things in your youth ministry...but do people know about it?  In this session, we'll look at the best ways to promote your youth ministry, both in-person and on social media.  As well, we'll give you strategies to become better advocates for the youth and youth ministry.  Clay will also welcome guest panelists Kathleen LeBlanc (St. Joseph, Langley), Matthew Furtado (St. Matthew, Surrey), and Faye McCreedy (Immaculate Conception, Delta).  They will all share some of their insights and experiences in promoting youth ministry.
  • Writing and Sharing Your Testimony (Joseph San Jose of Catholic Christian Outreach):  One of the most effective tools of evangelization is a personal testimony; everyone has a story of how the Lord has worked in their life.  Come and discover your own testimony and learn why it is so important to be witness in this way. Sharing your testimony can be one of your most effective tools as a ministry.  Our guest presenter for this course is Joseph San Jose of Catholic Christian Outreach.  He presented a similar session at Rise Up this past December and we're thrilled to have him!
Cost is $25 per course (includes lunch). You can get more info and register here.  We hope to see you and your team members there!
University Mass

Archbishop Miller invites the university and college communities to the University Mass on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 7:30pm at Holy Rosary Cathedral downtown Vancouver.  Catholic students, faculty and staff and their families from public and private post-secondary institutions are invited.
Confessions will be available before Mass (starting at 6:30pm) and a reception will follow the Mass at Holy Rosary Hall.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Are you in need of healing? Are you looking for a chance to reconcile with God, others, and yourself?

Make plans to join us for Freedom, our original reconciliation event for high school teens.  This year's event will be on Friday, February 19 from 7pm - 10:30pm at St. Matthew's Parish in Surrey.

Participants will experience first-hand the healing power of Christ through music, prayer, testimonies and teachings, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Special guests include Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB and Fr. Rufo "Junji" Zarate, SDB.

You won't want to miss this special event; come see why Freedom is often imitated but never duplicated!
