Welcome Back Pioneers!
The administration and faculty have been preparing throughout the summer and especially this month for the return of our Pioneers next Monday, August 13th. This is an abbreviated issue leading into the start of the new school year to include some important back-to-school reminders and other Pioneer happenings.

School Grade!
It's official! School grades are out, and our Pioneers led the way with a 97-point increase!!! ORHS jumped a full grade - we are a "C" based high school under the Florida Dept. of Education evaluation criteria.  We are so incredibly proud of our students and thankful to our dedicated staff #thisisoakridge #pioneercreed

Volunteer at ORHS in 2018-2019
Please sign up to be approved by OCPS to be an ORHS volunteer this school year.  In order to be on campus, you must be registered and cleared by OCPS as an ADDitions volunteer. This is not a difficult process and takes very little time.

* Need more information on volunteering at ORHS? Contact: Laurene Householder at 407-852-3200 X6102394 or

I am looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus Monday morning for a successful, on-time start to the 2018-2019 school year!
With Pioneer Pride,
Mrs. Jennifer Bellinger

New Bell Schedule for 2018-2019newschedule
School starts at 7:20 a.m.

OCPS required all district high schools to start at 7:20 a.m. this year. That is 10 minutes later than last year's starting time. But the end time is now 35 minutes later.

Making sense of the chart: The chart illustrates actual average annual per student funding dating back to 2007 and then projected forward to 2022, adjusted for the cost of inflation (the black line running along the top equals average total student funding after you factor in rising costs due to inflation which are a reality).

You can see where the one-mill property tax kicked in during 2011 and then ran through this past school year (brown bars). Now it is time to vote again. Without an extension of the one-mill, OCPS will have -$1,437 less in per-student funding than what 2007 funding would provide today as there will be fewer dollars to work with combined with rising costs due to inflation.

The bottom line? Without the extension of the one-mill, OCPS anticipates a total 2019 budget reduction of $143 million which will impact many hundreds of teachers, academic programs, arts and athletics.

 "You decide. Your vote counts."

The Chicago Bulls have signed guard Antonio Blakeney to an NBA contract. Antonio Blakeney was an ORHS 2015 graduate. He went onto LSU and has been drafted for the NBA.
Blakeney (6-4, 197) went undrafted out of LSU in 2017 but was tabbed for the Bulls MGM Resorts Summer League roster last year. After leading that squad with 16.8 points per game, he earned a Two-Way contract from Chicago. In 2017-18, he was named the NBA G League Rookie of the Year after averaging 32.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.22 steals per game for the Windy City Bulls. With the NBA Bulls, Blakeney averaged 7.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.5 minutes through 19 games. In this year's Summer League action, Blakeney again led the team with 21.0 points per game, along with averaging 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in five games.
