Christina Sabat '17
Even before she was a student at Oakcrest, Christina Sabat ’17 knew she wanted to be a veterinarian — and when she was looking for a high school to attend, she kept this goal at the forefront of her mind.
“I knew Oakcrest would prepare me for college, while also nurturing me into the person I wanted to become,” she said.
Today, Christina is in her second year of veterinary school at Purdue.
“At Oakcrest, I blossomed into a confident, intelligent woman who had the qualifications to compete on an international level,” she said. “I applied for Purdue University’s Veterinary Scholars program which would provide pre-acceptance into veterinary school after meeting rigorous academic requirements during my undergraduate studies at Purdue.”

McGowan Family Athletic Center
During the early days of Oakcrest at the Yuma campus, gym classes were held in a carpeted multipurpose room in the basement - ball games had to be played sitting down. At the Vienna campus, gym classes took place throughout the school - in the second floor “shell” before it was completed, outside, in Walsh Hall, and sometimes even in the lobby. But with the opening of the McGowan Family Athletic Center, a beautiful gym space will bring Oakcrest PE classes to a new level. Basketball and volleyball courts and a fitness room with top-notch equipment will allow for Oakcrest to provide a variety of athletic training for students. Sports teams currently use rented courts from local gyms in the area, which requires the transport of students for daily practices, but the space will also allow for Oakcrest to host home games and practices for our volleyball and basketball teams. The athletic facility, which is welcomed with open arms by the growing Oakcrest School community, also features a concession stand, five new classrooms as well as offices and common spaces. The project is set to be completed in the spring of 2023.

Oakcrest at the March for Life
This year, Oakcrest sent several buses full of students and their families to the 50th March for Life. Some students were able to attend the LifeMass sponsored by the Sisters of Life and the Knights of Columbus prior to the March, while others attended the March for Life Rally on the National Mall.
Since its founding, Oakcrest has strongly supported building a culture of life, and has sent groups of students to the March for Life over the years.
Check out Oakcrest's involvement at the
March for Life here.
Fr. Robert Kilner (brother of several alumnae) delivered a beautiful homily at the Youth Mass of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Life at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C., on
Jan. 20. Read his homily here.
