Dear Oakies,
The month of March is filled with many opportunities for our alumnae to reconnect. We hope that you will join us for the Annual Humanities Lecture on March 2, featuring Henry Wingate, the artist that created the beautiful Holy Family painting that hangs in the school chapel.
On March 9, myself, along with the Oakcrest Alumnae Association Leadership Team are looking forward to welcoming back alumnae and former faculty members who attended Oakcrest at the Yuma campus for a gathering at the former campus now known as the Yuma Center. Brunch, tours, and reminiscing is what's on the agenda for the day!
We will finish off the month with another fun-filled Alumnae Week, March 16 -22, with events hosted by various alumnae. Be sure to mark your calendars, RSVP and join us for as many events as you can!
See you soon!
Maritere

Grace (Gilday '09) Bohlin
As the only daughter in a family with four boys, Grace (Gilday ’09) Bohlin sees her Oakcrest classmates as her “sisters” as she calls them.
“Ever since making Oakcrest friends, I’ve had a little flame quietly growing within myself, a passion for bringing women together,” she explains.
What began as a passion for bringing women together by creating opportunities for mothers to grow in community and friendship through “rosary playgroup,” “nature co-op,” and “playground crew,” has now led Grace into the position as the Program Coordinator with the non-profit organization, Girl Talk. Girl Talk seeks to inspire girls to be “confident leaders through peer-to-peer mentoring programs.”
“Their programs are designed to celebrate, equip, and empower women with the tools they need to recognize and radiate their inherent dignity through content, community, and connection,” Grace said. “It’s exactly what I had been looking for!”

Birthdays
Just as St. Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, enjoyed celebrating birthdays, it is only fitting that a school established under his inspiration also enjoys celebrating birthdays. With gratitude for each life and the gift that each person is to our Oakcrest community, Oakcrest loves each birthday! Each year, it is the job of the seventh grade to host a birthday party for the Head of School. They invite the whole school, prepare special party decorations and a class gift, and even provide celebratory treats for each student. Oakcrest celebrates the birthday of each girl with birthday buddies who decorate the birthday girl’s locker and bring in a treat to share with the class. From what began as a school-wide song of "Happy Birthday" in Walsh Hall, still continues today in the form of singing loudly as a class most often during class break. The birthday girl also receives a jeans day to celebrate her special day! We send birthday cards to all our alumnae, and as a faculty and staff, celebrate birthdays each month with celebratory treats.
