Happy New Year, Oakies!
I have a few fun stats to share with all of you as we kick-off the new year. The fall of 2023 and January of 2024 proved to be very busy for the Alumnae Relations Office. During this time, we welcomed 194 of you back to campus for the various alumnae and school events from Homecoming in September to the Young Alumnae Tea earlier this month! A total of 15 (and counting) alumnae have returned to work or coach at Oakcrest this year, and 37 alumnae have graciously given back of their time and talent to serve as your Class Captains. Additionally, every month we welcome alumnae for Mass, confession, speaking engagements, or just friendly visits while in town. We are overjoyed every time you stop by - I even have fun gifts to give you if you stop by my office!
I am looking forward to seeing you at our alumnae events in the coming months. Be sure to save the dates for our upcoming Yuma Social and various Alumnae Week events.

Oakcrest Holy Family Image Across the Globe
Class of 1984 alumna, María Toribio, an assistant at the Fomento de Centros de Enseñanza Alumni Association, requested the use of the image of the Oakcrest Holy Family Painting by Henry Wingate, for their annual Christmas card. The card was sent to 90,000 of their alumni all over the world with a special recognition of Oakcrest School.

Many Oakies gathered over Christmas break and shared their group pictures with us. We love seeing how much our alumnae keep in touch after graduation! Thank you for sharing!

Maria (Sparacino '95) Twigg
After graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 1995, Maria (Sparacino ’95) Twigg attended the University of Maryland College Park, receiving her bachelors in Psychology magna cum laude. She credits her excellent education at Oakcrest with now being able to homeschool her children, saying that while at Oakcrest, she was formed in her love of “good books, my faith, and the Truth.”
While at Oakcrest from 7th-12th grade, Maria was a member of the basketball team, as well as the National Honor Society, the Service Club, and Student Council. She enjoyed performing in the Oakcrest variety shows and singing in the chorus.
Since her days at Oakcrest in the early 90’s, Maria has been an advocate for life as a member of the Respect Life Club and attending the annual March for Life with her family and classmates.

Oakcrest has long been proud of its active participation at the annual March for Life. In 2021, the students led the March while carrying the official banner. That same year, alumna Catalina Scheider Galiñanaes '21, gave a presentation to the crowd from the main stage. This year, despite the snow and cold weather, Oakies, along with their families and staculty members, all donning their green Respect Life hats travelled to DC in 4 buses and many alumnae from all over the country came back to DC to join their fellow Oakies at the March.

Fitness Center
From “The Deck” in the basement of Yuma (which didn’t have ceilings tall enough to stand) to the first Walsh Hall in Balls Hill, (and even in an unfinished west wing of the west wing of the Vienna campus) gym class at Oakcrest has been held in creative spaces over the years. With the McGowan Family Athletic Center, a new fitness center has taken gym class and team sports training to the next level. The space overlooks the gym and includes weight room equipment designed for groups of students to improve fitness and health, as well as a turf area for short sprints, cardio, and individual training. Coach Jen Pruskowski continues to develop the strength and conditioning program for the sports teams and her classes in the new space.

Longtime Faculty Member and Alumna Mom Bids Farewell
Mrs. Cecilia Escobar (Clare '18) has decided to leave Oakcrest after 18 years of service as a teacher, mentor, and Middle School Director. Cecilia has given so much to Oakcrest through her time and talents. We are truly grateful, and she will be missed.

We did it!
Thanks to the generosity of the Oakcrest community, we had our best response ever to our Board of Directors Matching Challenge. There are still gifts coming in but, as of January 3, we have more than doubled this year's match!
Even if you missed the opportunity to match your gift during the Board of Directors Matching Challenge, the Annual Fund runs through June 30 of this year. If you would like to join our community of givers feel free to click here to support Oakcrest.
