Mass of Thanksgiving for
Bryan Barrera,
husband of Alumna
Suzanne (Fagan '03) Barrera
Dear All,
We are so happy to share with you that we will have a Mass of Thanksgiving for Bryan's recovery on November 19, 2022! It has been a year of incredible grace and blessings and we can think of no better way of thanking God for Bryan's life and for your incredible outpouring of prayers and support than to worship Him together in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
We know many of you had your own extended circles who were praying so much for us; please share this with anyone who may wish to join us, and they are welcome to do the same. It is an open invitation!
Love,
Suzanne and Bryan

Ana Victoria Smith '19
At the age of 12, Ana Victoria Smith ’19 attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama and there she knew that she would one day end up in the STEM field.
“I became a huge space nerd, and spent many more summers at space camp,” she said. “In my sophomore and junior years at Oakcrest I took part in the NASA Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and I was part of the Science Olympiad team from its inception.”
Now a senior at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Ana Victoria is majoring in Computer Engineering. She hopes to continue her education and earn a master’s degree in computer engineering following her undergraduate graduation in the spring. This past summer, Ana Victoria interned for the Munitions Directorate at the Air Force Research Lab on Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, where she worked on unmanned aerial vehicle or drone systems.
“My science classes and the teachers were very important to me during my Oakcrest years,” she said. “Dr. Hussmann, Mrs. Kanuch, and Mrs. DeLisle were so encouraging and helpful whenever I struggled to understand their classes. They were also supportive in my STEM pursuits outside of Oakcrest.”

Lockers!
From small lockers in the lower level of the Yuma campus, to the large lockers and commons at the Vienna campus, Oakcrest students have stored their belongings in many places throughout the years. Now space allows for students to each use one full-sized locker for the year, a place where she can store her books and bags and decorate the interior according to her liking – often with photos of their friends and family. Students “move into” their lockers on their first day of school. Each grade is also assigned a “commons” area in one of the school’s wings which gives the girls a place to gather and a place to study. Their lockers are located in the hallway that corresponds with their grade commons.

Charlotte O'Beirne '24 featured in the
Wall Street Journal
"I am 16 years old, and my generation has inherited a chaotic intellectual landscape. Between arguments about ideology and indoctrination, we have forgotten that, above all, art is made to be enjoyed."
