Oakcrest classmates, Grace Ferguson '18 and Sophia Dort '18 recently reunited as coworkers at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Grace just started working as a medical scribe in the INOVA Fairfax Emergency Department this Fall, while Sophia, began working there, as a scribe, this summer. As Grace noted, "Who knew we would reunite as coworkers one day!" They are pictured above on the day they worked a shift together in the pediatrics department. You never know where you might meet up with a fellow Oakie!

Summer Postcards from our Alumnae

This summer, three of our alumnae shared their summer expereinces with us.

Emily (Swedo ‘06) Hagedorn

This summer I will be graduating with dual graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University. I will have earned a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration with honors. In my final class, I will be leading an expedition through the mountains of Norway; focusing on developing my and others' leadership skills through a grueling trek in the tundra. I am looking forward to the Land of the Midnight Sun and will send photos once I return! I am also making a career change and have been actively interviewing with firms across the country. Leaving nursing will be hard, but I am excited to take on this new challenge!

Cassielle Sweda '22

I visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with my family this July. We visited the Christ the Redeemer statue on the Corcovado mountain and traveled to the top of the Pão de Açúcar mountain to watch the beautiful sunset. It was an amazing day!

Abigail Adams '22

Abby spent the summer of participating in both the Arlington Diocese Workcamp and the Oakcrest Camp Wojtyla trip. During the Camp Wojtyla trip, Abby along with 10 fellow students, and Meghan Hadley ‘06, hiked in the Sangre de Christo mountains in Colorado, where they had opportunities for mass in the wilderness, wonderful discussions, and more! She said they struggled, persevered, and overall had a lot of amazing experiences together, and that the scenery during the trip was so beautiful! In addition to the camps, she worked as a swim coach.

Upcoming Alumnae Events

Oakcrest Then and Now

New School Year Orientation!

As Oakcrest has grown in enrollment to over 300 students, the process of getting ready for the new school year has grown as well. Today, Orientation provides sixth and ninth grade students the opportunity to meet their classmates and get adjusted to Oakcrest before the first days of school arrive. While parents hear from the Academic Directors and the Head of School throughout the morning of Orientation, the students spend time with their Class Deans. This year, the ninth grade class completed a team bonding activity where they stacked plastic solo cups using only pieces of string! After Orientation, the hope is that students are able to move into the first days of school with confidence as they begin their new year at Oakcrest. For the first time, Oakcrest also offered Orientation for all returning parents as well, emphasizing the importance of parent partnership in

an Oakrest education.

Alumnae Parents Corner

Alum Parent Reception

Our first annual Homecoming Alumnae Parent Reception was held on Friday, September 16 in the school library. It was great to see so many alum parents, spanning graduates from all three buildings, come together for an evening of camaraderie, wine and cheese, reminiscing and updating. We look forward to seeing you often. Please join us for daily Mass, the Patrons of the Arts Receptions and the Upper and Middle School shows, as well as all future alumnae parent events.

Cocktail Party Comes to You

For the past two years, the Oakcrest Alumnae Association Leadership Team (OAALT) has donated a very successful Gala Acton Package, "Cocktail Party Comes to You." This past April, the OAALT joined forces with alumnae parents, Suzanne and Jack McCreery (Eileen '19) to host the cocktails and appetizer portion of the eventing in conjunction with a dinner for 20 graciously donated by and hosted at the home of the McCreerys. Alumnae, Eileen McCreery '19 and Maritere (Gramatges '91) Crum served as bartenders for he evening.

The winning bid went to alumnae parents, Jean and Dan Beatty (Mary Beth '14, Colleen '18).

Thank you to the McCreerys, the OAA Leadership Team, and the Beattys for making this auction item such a success!
