Dear Oakies,
Welcome to 2021! Let us begin the year by congratulating the Class of 1991 for achieving the highest percentage of class participation in the Giving Tuesday Annual Fund contest. Way to go Class of ’91, your class picture in Alumnae Hall (featured here) will don the prize ribbon until next year’s contest.

Alumna, Catherine (Heeter) Bishop ’99 and her family are currently living in Jordan. Catherine shared this photo of her and daughter, Lyla, sporting their new Oakcrest gear. She writes: “We have another year and a half left here in Jordan, but hope to be back in the States in time for Lyla, my oldest daughter, to start Oakcrest as a 6th grader. We love the new sweatshirts and t-shirts from Oakie Outfitters!”

Did You Know?
Oakcrest hosts LEAD Days throughout the year. These days extend the learning process outside the classroom and school walls. Recently, the Upper School heard from alumna Sophie Frelk '14, who spoke about unity of life and her work as a nurse, while the 7th and 8th grade students received some great discussions about friendship, including one from alumnae Grace Ferguson '18 and Clare Escobar '18.

The Stations of the Cross
(Class of 2018 Contributed to Purchase )
|
|
Oakcrest's chapel has changed a lot since its days on the Yuma and McLean campuses. Our current chapel, situated right in the center of the school, has a large seating capacity, beautiful art, a spacious choir loft, and Stations of the Cross that were very generously donated by the Class of 2018. However, some things remain the same. Our Lady of Oakcrest is still here. And the chapel still remains the heart of the school, a place where students enjoy daily Mass and many quiet moments with Our Lord.

OAKIES ON CAMPUS
What have this year's Oakies been up to?
|
|
In spite of the many ways that COVID has made life unpredictable, Oakcrest students have continued in their dedication to service. This year students have found many creative ways to serve those both in their immediate community and beyond.

It may be the middle of winter, but we have some lovely student art brightening up our hallways! The African violets were created by our Painting I Class, using glazing with watercolor paints. The animals were drawn by our Portfolio Preparation class and the theme was "Metamorphosis: Object to Animal".
