Greetings from Maritere Crum Alumnae Relations Coordinator

Dear Oakies -

Thank you to all the alumnae and their parents who joined us for our Seventh Annual O'Donovan Humanities Lecture and Reception! We are grateful to Emily Austin and her father Victor Lee Austin for sharing such a beautiful reflection on grief with our community in their talk entitled "Ancient and Modern Grief: Presence and Absence." In case you missed it, the recording is now available on our school podcast channel.

This week I had the pleasure of connecting with two members from the Class of 1985, Mary Beth (Hogan) Rolwes and Beatrice (Meyer) Hanson. Listening to them talk about their time (and adventures) at Oakcrest had me laughing throughout our conversation and I can't wait for them to join us this fall during the Homecoming Luncheon so they can share more of their stories! Thank you Mary Beth and Beatrice for being the Class Class Captains for the Class of 1985 and for sharing your stories 30+ years later and making them sound like it was yesterday. I love connecting with my fellow Oakies!

We all have several opportunities to connect with other Oakies during Alumnae Week 2022. The week begins on April 2 and runs through April 8. Be sure to check out the daily activities and RSVP to let us know you will be joining us. You don't want to miss out! There are both virtual and in-person events. I am looking forward to connecting with you during this special week!

See you soon,

Maritere

Did You Know?

Green and White teams play a big part in school spirit and student life at Oakcrest.

Started during the 2004-2005 school year, the Green and White teams have a friendly rivalry. When a student joins Oakcrest, she is assigned to either the Green or the White team. Sporting the official colors of Oakcrest, these teams compete against each other in fun contests throughout the year for spirit points.

On the Executive Student Council, there is a Green Spirit Captain and a White Spirit Captain. These students help promote school spirit in their respective teams through facilitating fun activities.  Everyone, even faculty and staff, is on either the Green or the White team!

Oakcrest Then and Now

Spirit Week!

Spirit Week has always been a time for the whole school community to come together to celebrate Oakcrest through friendly competition and fun! Some things have remained the same throughout the years: students dress up according to a theme each day of the week, there’s the Class Cheer

competition, and Field Day. Oakcrest now has two spirit weeks, one in the fall and one in the spring. Spirit Week in the fall includes an All-School Service Day and a school-wide game of capture the flag. In the spring, we have the Oakcrest Talent Show, and—for the first time ever this year—a carnival to raise money for Oakcrest’s school charity. During the 2004-2005 school year, Oakcrest’s mascot,

Charlie the Charger, came into existence! Charlie has helped promote school spirit at pep rallies and other events. Our first Charlie was Grace (Cynkar ‘05) Hearn.
