Academic Spotlights

The Beginning Theatre curriculum is currently focused on the design process as well as discussing the professional dynamic of presenting and pitching designs. Students designed costume renderings and set models for the plays Medea and Everyman respectively. Kimi K. '28 presents her costume renderings for Medea.

Congratulations to the following students who earned coveted spots on District XII Honors Chorus: Maddie S. '26 and Aline T. '28. Rebecca V. '25 will serve as an alternate.

Not only did Colette P. '28 have a successful audition for the District XII Honors Orchestra, but out of 131 auditioning violinists she was seated first chair, and will be the concertmaster for the event. "This would be an impressive achievement for any student, but is extraordinary for a student of her age," commented Mrs. Alix Baldwin, Instrumental Director.

Our Oakies are grateful for so many things! This Thanksgiving tradition gives students time to reflect and share.

Safe to say that our 10th Grade fundraiser (lunchtime movie & snacks) for the school charity was a rousing success.

Faculty Profile: Elisa Torres, Visual Arts Teacher and 7th Grade Class Dean

“It’s really good for the students to know that the teachers love their subjects and not just teaching it, but also living it." Ms. Elisa Torres.

Art Teacher and Seventh Grade Class Dean Ms. Elisa Torres says that her foundation as a missionary with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) was the perfect segue into teaching at Oakcrest.

Oakcrest is accredited by the Middle States Association. Accreditation is a self-study process that schools voluntarily use to demonstrate they are meeting a defined set of performance standards, and it is renewed every seven years. A key component of the self-study is parent feedback. I encourage you to complete this brief online survey which is made up of a series of questions where you need to rank your responses and ends with an opportunity to share comments or feedback. It should take you 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. Your daughters will take a similar survey, in paper form, during the resource period on November 20. Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest feedback is appreciated. The survey link will close on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 8:00 pm.
