Oberman Tutoring Students Continue to Go Up-Up-Up on the SAT

We are proud to share that each student who met with us more than once to prepare for the SAT went up an average of 10–20 points per session with Oberman Tutoring. As an example, one student who had scored a 650 on math met with us 3 times and scored a 710 the next time she took the SAT. Give yourself the best shot at success by working with Oberman Tutoring. Congratulations to all of our test prep students from November!

FOCUS ON: How Can Parents Best Help Their Children with Homework?

The pain! The agony! That’s right – nightly homework struggles with your children. I recently authored an article on the topic of parents helping their children with homework in a way that is best for children in the long run. One of the points I emphasize is that it is quite challenging to help your own children with homework. A worst possible outcome of trying to help your child with homework would be a decrease in the quality of your relationship with that child. That may mean outsourcing the homework help, even if (or particularly if) it’s a subject in which you are an expert.

That is where Oberman Tutoring comes in. We pride ourselves on excellent relationships with our students, and our roles are clearly defined: tutor and student. Your role as parent is all-encompassing, of course, and is ideally focused on a much broader goal of raising an amazing human being. So don’t let academics get in the way of your meaningful relationship with your child. Instead, contact us!

What Our Students Are Saying!

  • (sent via text along with a picture of the quiz) “Wanted you to see that [my child] got a 100 on her math quiz. She is so happy. Thank you!!!”
  • "I remarked to [my child] that he always seems to be in a good mood when I pick him up from your sessions, and he said it's because everything makes sense when you explain it. Thank you!”
  • “He came upstairs really excited to tell me about the session.”
  • “I’m really happy she is feeling good about your sessions. Buy in is EVERYTHING with teens”
  • “Just wanted to share the good news of [my child] getting a 100% on their quiz today!”

I’m Dr. Paul Oberman. I have worked in education for 34 years as a teacher, principal, and head of school, and I have a PhD in educational psychology. Those experiences shape my teaching philosophy:

  • All students can learn (and can learn math!), and learning should be fun.

  • Learning should build on a student’s belief that they can reach their goals, because this plays a big role in success.

  • Students learn math best when they can see how it has relevance in their lives, so I show them compelling examples throughout our work together.

  • I assure strong communication among tutor, family, and teacher. Success comes from the best methods shared among everyone.

  • Lastly, I know that students don’t care what you know unless they know that you care. I develop true connections with my students so they have a relationship context in which to ask questions, fail, and ultimately succeed.
