Thank You for Giving the Gift of Health
A huge thank you for your generosity! Because of supporters like you, we raised more than 100% of our $16,200 goal to purchase state-of-the-art cold laser equipment as a gift to Bo and Tarra for their birthdays this year. In fact, we raised $16,765.
Now we have the best equipment to manage joint pain of any Elephant Refuge North America (ERNA) residents as they grow older, keeping them roaming further and longer with ease.
Thank you!

Elephants Exploring & Enjoying Nature
Elephants are wild animals. Holding them in captivity doesn't change their natural motivations, instincts, or behaviors. Even though their lives have been much different from wild elephants, they have not lost their true nature. Tarra has lived freely in hundreds of acres since she was 21. Before then, my philosophy was to give her as much freedom and time in nature as possible. This is one of the reasons she took to sanctuary life with ease.
Before coming to ERNA seven months ago, Bo had not experienced being in nature to the same degree as Tarra. But true to his elephantness, Bo has taken to it like, as they say, “a duck to water.” He quickly discovered tasty trees, grasses and vines, and can be found swimming in the pond daily. Bo engages freely in doggy games with Mala, and has been persistent in his pursuit of Tarra’s friendship. It has been a joy to watch their relationship deepen with each passing day.
Now, it is Tarra who pursues Bo. Elecam footage shows Tarra moving across the pasture towards Bo while he continues to graze, feigning her approach is unnoticed. When she is close enough to touch, Bo engages calmly with a soft touch of his trunk to her face, mouth and head followed by a hefty body rub to which Tarra stands steady, accepting the attention and affection Bo showers on her.
Over the past two months, since the overnight temperatures have warmed making the need for the barn obsolete, Bo and Tarra spend hours side by side grazing, napping and no doubt talking.
In a few days, we plan to open the 750-acre habitat to Bo and Tarra. There is excitement in the air as we complete the final touches: a new automatic refilling water trough; an overhead shelter for Bo just in case he wants it; tracking collars to ensure we always know where they are in the vast habitat; and a thorough examination of the double fence system to make sure everything is in tip-top shape.
The future for Bo and Tarra is glorious.
So often we hear from people around the world, how much they appreciate watching this relationship between Bo and Tarra (and Mala too, of course). These special souls bring all of us great joy.
Thank you for your support so we can continue to enrich the lives of elephants at the Refuge and in Asia more every day.

Bo’s New & Improved Webpage
We just gave Bo’s page on the EAI website a fresh update. Now you can learn a lot more about Bo including important info about his history, photos, videos, a quick outline of his vitals, a timeline of important events and links to EleDiary entries about Bo and media coverage. We’re working on Tarra’s new page now and will roll that out soon.
Bo’s new page also features an opportunity to sponsor Bo. We know Bo holds a special place in your heart, now is your chance to become his sponsor. You can choose an annual sponsorship of $75 or sponsor Bo every month of the year with a recurring donation of your choice. You'll receive a sponsorship certificate that includes a photo of Bo and five fun facts about him delivered via eco-friendly email.
Also new is an opportunity to help feed Bo and Tarra! The natural habitat at ERNA provides unlimited amounts of live vegetation including a wide variety of grasses, bamboo, tree branches and vines, all edible, all naturally nutritious. To ensure Bo and Tarra’s roughage-based diets are balanced, have the proper essential vitamins and minerals, and support their joint health, we supplement their diets with Timothy Grass, fresh produce, Cosequin, Platinum Performance Supplement and a special Maruzi supplement.
As you can imagine, elephants eat quite a bit – $50 will help us feed one elephant for one day. You can select options for feeding one or two elephants for one day or more, a week, a month, etc.

With your support, we can continue to give Bo his best life ever. Thank you!

Celebrate Mother's Day with a Gift of Elephant Joy
Celebrate your mom on Mother's Day (May 8th) by sending an honor card from EAI.
What better way to bring your own matriarch joy than by sharing the story of Sonton Kali and Sompa Kali in Nepal. They celebrate every day together in a chain-free yard thanks to the efforts of EAI and you, our supporters!
You can send mom her honor card by email, or we'll send you a printable PDF you can print and mail—or hopefully give your mom in person.
Give the gift of joy to elephants in need and express your love with a donation in mom’s honor to EAI.
