Vajra Dakini Nunnery

Obstacle or Blessing?

There is an old Tibetan folktale about a farmer who receives a new horse. All the neighbors say how wonderful. The farmer responds maybe yes maybe no. His son goes for a ride and falls and breaks his leg. All the neighbors say how terrible. The farmer responds maybe yes maybe no. The army comes to the village and takes all the able bodied young men to war, but his son cannot walk. All the neighbors say how fortunate. The farmer responds maybe yes maybe no....and so the story continues.

Similarly Vajra Dakini has faced a series of what seemed like obstacles. And at the same time there have been many blessings. Our Board really went into action and we became a more committed team dedicated to our mission. Tremendous generosity arose in small and large amounts from many sources. I was offered a series of healing spaces while the building was remediated and rebuilt.

Sometimes we may not recognize the connection of nature and healing. Since late June I have been in a condo next to a park on the ocean. Most mornings I sit on a park bench meditating as the sun rises. This has been profoundly healing. The photos below show the remarkable color just before and after dawn this morning. Impermanence is how far the sun has moved in three months!

Mandala Offering Ceremony

Sunday am 8:30-9:30

A dedicated Dharma student has just landed her first major job and wishes to begin her career by offering a portion of her first month's salary. This is also a traditional way to start a retreat. If you are in Portland Sunday morning you are invited to a Mandala Ceremony at Fort Allen Park 49 Eastern Promenade (same park). This gives everyone local time to get back home for the Sunday Dharma class!

Sunday Dharma Special Events

While Khenmo and many of our Sangha are on retreat we will offer special videos on Sundays in place of Khenmo Drolma"s Dharma talk.

On September 15th and 22nd we will show the extraordinary biographical film on the life of HE Garchen Rinpoche "For the Benefit of all Beings".

The film traces his early life as an angry young man (self described), his 20 years of extreme hardship in a Chinese prison and his emergence as one of our greatest living teachers.

Tuesday and Thursday Morning Meditation will continue as always as we build a joyful Sangha.

Vajra Dakini appreciates all your donations that make our activities possible.
