Swimmers are invited to participate in the Ocean Mile Swim on Sunday, August 9. The race kicks off at 3:00 pm from the Qualicum Beach waterfront and online registrations are now open.
For more than 60 years, the Town of Qualicum Beach, in partnership with the Regional District of Nanaimo, has proudly hosted the Ocean Mile Swim. This open-water event challenges participants to swim just over one mile along the beautiful Qualicum Beach waterfront in a friendly competition that attracts swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Participants will compete for coveted trophies across 15 award categories, making the event a favourite for both seasoned swimmers and first-time competitors.
"The Ocean Mile Swim is a cherished summer tradition that showcases our spectacular waterfront while bringing together swimmers from across the region," said Mayor Teunis Westbroek. "Whether you're racing for a trophy or simply challenging yourself to complete the course, it's a memorable and friendly competition."
Participants must be at least 8 years of age and younger than 100 years of age on race day. As this is an open-water event, swimmers should be confident in their ability to complete the course safely.
Registrations are open online until noon on August 5, and on-the-day registrations will also be available onsite between 1:00 pm and 2:45 pm.
