President's Corner
Summers heat and humidity are upon us but we can't let that stop us. This Chambers on the move! (Remember I said that and be prepared for awesome news in August!).

I could not be happier with our YPP group. Such dynamic and engaging young professionals ready to take on the world. If you are between 21-35 or work with interested coworkers who are, please, check them out. By working with YPs from the OC and Salisbury Chambers, our group is gaining valuable networking, soft skills, and career guidance. At the next event, snag one! You were there once.

In speaking with several of our partners, it became evident that there was a need for an open, flow of ideas, forum with regards to agencies and nonprofits with programs aimed at providing assistance and guidance to clients seeking employment. On July 19, we will host such a forum at the OP Library, brown bag lunch style beginning at Noon. We encourage you to attend to learn more about our community programs, see how you or your business may assist them, and provide ideas as to how all such area orgs may work together to further their individual goals. Education, resume writing, asking for references, soft and hard skill training, proper clothing, transportation, housing, etc.

Finally, we are heading into several very busy months. Our Flounder Tournament, Car Show, and Corn Hole Tournament are all in August and September. We wholeheartedly encourage participation and assistance in our promotional efforts. Grab your rod (hot or fishing LOL) and practice your throwing for all the fun.

Hope to see you soon!

Next Meeting - August 4, 2021
8:30am - 9:30am at the Chamber office
The Young Professionals of the Pines (YPP) is ecstatic to announce our next few events for the summer season! All young professionals ages 21-35 are encouraged to join us for networking and fun at our Monthly Mingles, monthly meetings, Cornhole Tournament, and Shorebirds Game. YPP members are not required to become chamber partners.

The next monthly meeting of YPP will be August 4th at 8:30am at the Ocean Pines Chamber of Commerce office. If you can’t make it to our meeting in person, the option to join us via Zoom is also available. Our next Monthly Mingle will be on July 30th. Keep an eye on our Facebook page (Ocean Pines Chamber YPP) as well as our LinkedIn Group for more information as it becomes available!

We are also teaming up with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals and the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals to host Christmas in July with the Shorebirds on July 23rd! Tickets cost $25, which covers the game ticket plus a drink coupon. All additional proceeds will be donated to the United Way to provide Christmas gifts for Eastern Shores families in need.

Mark your calendars for September 25th while you’re at it. YPP, in partnership with Delaware Cornhole, will be hosting this year’s Cornhole Tournament! The tournament will be held at the Berlin Lion’s Club; registration starts at 10am with the first bag toss at 11:15am. Cost to play is $50 per team.

Be sure to follow our social media to stay up to date on all the latest events and announcements within the Ocean Pines Community, as well as details on how to register for our upcoming events!

The Young Professionals of the Pines (YPP) aims to unite the next generation of professionals. YPP creates opportunities for emerging business leaders to build relationships, expand their leadership skills, and develop their careers while paving the way for the future success of the Ocean Pines community. The group is designed for professionals between the ages of 21 and 35. If you or a colleague are interested in joining YPP, please reach out to Kerrie Bunting or John Dresher. All emerging professionals are welcome! We hope to see you join us this summer!

Our annual flounder tournament is always accompanied by an auction. This year, we have been graced with such awesome items that we will be doing a silent auction AND a tricky tray auction simultaneously.

We'd love to highlight your business's great products and generosity. Donate toward the effort today!

Board Opportunity

If you are reading this, you are a member of the Ocean Pines Chamber and are an active, engaged, and dynamic individual who likes hands-on involvement and making our community better. The Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) needs you.

Since 1973, WCDC has been providing day services, residential housing, and community-based supports for adults with intellectual disabilities in Worcester County.

WCDC’s current-day programming has embarked on a bold and exciting new initiative to transform into a center for the arts to enable its clients to communicate more effectively in different forms and to increase their independence in the community.

WCDC is looking for energetic, enthusiastic people with lots of great, fresh ideas to serve on our board of directors and help us in our mission to enable our clients to become as independent as possible.

Our board meets 10 times a year-the third Wednesday of each month excluding August and December-for about an hour starting at 6PM. We allow board members to attend in person at our facility on Newark Road, or virtually via Zoom.

If you are that dynamic individual who wants to volunteer for a meaningful, mission-driven cause to help others, please contact Executive Director Jack Ferry at ferry@wcdcservices.org to get more information and find out how you can become a part of a great team.
