President's Corner
Anyone else trying to get out of the déjà vu loop? We are scheduling events left and right and crossing our fingers (and toes) that we will be able to keep them in person. However, safety is paramount and our main concern, so, stay tuned for any last minute changes or cancellations. We apologize in advance.

Speaking of events, we have resurrected our Power Hour Breakfast in the form of Coffee Connect. They will be the second Tuesday of each month from 8am - 9am. Usually in our office but we are open should you wish to hold it at your location. We continue scheduling our Business After Hours and would love to host them at new locations. Typically, they are the third Thursday of each month, except July and August, from 5pm - 7pm. Let us know if we can bring the party to you!

Our Young Professionals of the Pines group continues to be strong. They truly stepped up this past holiday season with community service and donations. Are you 21-35 and want to network among peers while improving your leadership skills? They now have their own email: ypp@oceanpineschamber.org , reach out!

Let's send our most sincere ju-ju out to the Universe that 2022, eases up on us all a bit, we stay safe and healthy, and we can continue strengthening and creating new community bonds. Be well, people, and see you soon.

ART CAN CURE THOSE WINTER BLUES

The Art League of Ocean City is offering everyone a way to beat those winter blues by turning them into vibrant paint colors like indigo blues, rich cerulean blues, and turquoise blues. Taking a winter art class or volunteering your time at the Ocean City Center for the Arts can do just that!

“Doing something creative and colorful can be like a light coming on in the grey days of winter,” Rina Thaler, executive director of the Art League, said. “Art can stimulate your senses and make you feel alive while you’re doing it. It’s just a whole lot of fun, and we welcome everyone to come and join in. Bring your family and friends, and make it an ‘art day’.”

You don’t need to be able to draw to take an art class. There are classes for all skill levels, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. If you are already an accomplished artist, the Art League has classes to improve your skills, too. Plus there are classes for all ages, including special classes just for children.

The Arts Center hosts traditional classes in painting and drawing, but also non-traditional classes like fused glass, jewelry making, pour painting, wine glass painting, calligraphy, pottery, bookmaking, photography, and so much more. Some classes are conducted over Zoom if you prefer to stay home and make art.

Paint Nights are a great way to gather with friends and make a night of art and celebration. In January and February, you can participate in a Paint Night at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Hotel, where a friendly, talented Art League instructor will guide you step-by-step to a finished work of art you’ll take home that night. And you can party while you paint with beverages available from the hotel.

If you made a New Year’s resolution to get out of the house and more involved in 2022, the Art League has volunteer opportunities where you can give back to your community. Love movies? The Art League’s 6th Annual Ocean City Film Festival is coming up March 3-6, and volunteers help with parties, ticket taking, hospitality, and so much more.

Love children? Our Summer Art Adventure Camp serves hundreds of local students over five weeks in July and August. ArtX in August at Northside Park is a fun, outdoor art adventure where volunteers greet the public and help them make some art on the spot. Volunteers also help out at the monthly First Friday art openings at the Arts Center on 94th St. and at other special events.

Give us a call at 410-524-9433. Or better yet, stop by and say hello. Admission is always free at the Arts Center, 502 94th St. bayside. Follow us on Facebook, too!
Joan Worrall created this pour painting masterpiece in Dell Purrell's Pour Painting class at the Ocean City Center for the Arts.
Lottie Nickell displays the pet portrait she painted in Jacki Yamin's Pet Portrait Class at the Ocean City Center for the Arts.

Struggling with energy costs?
CQI may be able to help.
Join the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative

Have you looked at your utility bill lately? Are you concerned about how much you are spending?

We are slowly getting back to some type of normalcy as businesses reopen. However, unprecedented temperatures and multiple tropical storms across the US continue to escalate utility prices. CQI’s 25-plus years of experience with proven results provides the best option for stabilizing your utility expenses. There is no better time for members to enroll in the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative Program and gain price stability, budget control and peace-of-mind.

The Chamber of Commerce has partnered with nationally recognized energy management experts, CQI Associates, to administer and manage the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative. Competitive rates are obtained by leveraging aggregated usage from members of 23 Chambers of Commerce. The group purchasing power allows members to receive lower rates than they could typically attain on their own.

Since 2004, the Cooperative electricity rates have been lower than both market rates and the weighted annual utility standard offer service rates. During our previous campaigns, participants saw an average annual savings of $4,000. Natural gas rates were also lower on average than market rates and utility monthly winter peak indexed rates.
