Here we go!!
Monday, August 14th marks the first day of classes for the
2017-18 school year! I can tell that one of my favorite traditions will be putting out crisp new red banners in front of the school. It marks the start of a brand new school year for all of us.
Teachers have been busy preparing classrooms for students, the custodial staff is finishing up the final summer cleaning, and the administrative team is finalizing any changes to various school systems.
Last year a lot of focus was put into creating a safe and positive environment for our students and our staff. This year we will focus on some key areas we have identified as being crucial while maintaining our commitment to culture
. These areas are Grit, Gaps and Goals!! Look for the G3 on school communication. For the 2017-18 school year we will strive to instill grit and resiliency in our students and staff. We will use all of our resources to address daily learning GAPS. This will eliminate long term Gaps in student mastery of the content. Finally, we will hone our focus in on the state standards our students will need to master in order to be successful in high school and beyond!
On behalf of the entire 2017-18 OMS staff, I would like to extend the warmest welcome to our returning students and those rising 5th graders that are now Ocoee Middle School Cardinals!
It's going to be a great year!!

How long at OCPS: Going on my 13th year
Favorite aspect of teaching: I love to work with the students. I like what I teach, but I love the kids more.
Hobbies/Interests: I love to read, watch movies and eat.
Dylan Chase, OMS Director of Bands
Hello, my name is Dylan Chase. I was born in Tokyo, Japan, but grew up in Dayton, Ohio. I went to college at
Ohio University where I double majored in Music Education and Trombone Performance and earned a minor in Jazz Studies. This year I will be taking the position of Director of Bands at Ocoee Middle School and it is my first time working for OCPS.
Before this position, I was an Assistant Band Director for Jackson Middle and High School in Jackson, Ohio. My favorite aspect about teaching is getting to share my passion for music with my students, and helping them grow as musicians. Besides playing music, my favorite thing to do is going to the movies.
Some of my musical experiences have been: performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City; getting to go on two European tours where I performed in Dublin, Ireland, Rome, Italy, Paris, France, and Normandy, France; performing on a commercial CD titled Color + Light; and being selected as the Field Commander for the Ohio University Marching 110.

Thank you to everyone that attended!
This past Wednesday and Thursday we welcomed many students and families on campus to receive schedules and meet teachers for the upcoming school year. Thank you so much to everyone who braved the rain and came out both nights. We had an incredible turnout and we are so excited to see all of the students again on Monday morning to begin a new school year!

Pre-Planning Week for 2017-18
|
Preparation for the New School Year
On Monday, August 7th, all teachers and staff returned to begin planning and preparing for the upcoming school year. We had an amazing week working together to ensure our students have an incredible 2017-2018 school year!
Educational Escape Room
Our amazing Ocoee Middle School teachers came back to work this past week (below), and had the opportunity to participate in an educational escape room.
Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Hipolito, Ms. Thomas, and
Mrs. Rutherford attended the annual ISTE Technology Conference in June, and brought back some great resources for our teachers and students. An
educational escape room is just one of the awesome ideas we hope to share with our OMS students this year. Congratulations to all of our teams-everyone escaped successfully!

Attention 7th Grade Parents
|
ALL 7th grade students for 2017-18 school year need the Tdap (Tetanus) shot prior to the first day of school in August. These shots must be recorded on the original Florida Certificate of Immunization (HRS 680) form.
The Tdap shot documentation is required by the state of Florida in order to attend 7th grade.
Students will NOT receive their schedule at orientation or be able to attend classes on the first day of school without the proper documentation.
