I cannot begin to tell everyone how proud I was of our girls' basketball team at the District Championship game hosted by Oak Ridge High School!  They fought hard, but came up short.  Still, the amazing talent and sportsmanship displayed on the court was second to none.  Congratulations to the girls and Coach Spencer for a great season.

I am typing this in the final hours of our Friday before Spring Break and hope that teachers, staff and students enjoy some much deserved time off.  There may be however, some down time that might be beneficial to any student who might be feeling a bit behind.  We have made resources available for our students in 7th grade math and would encourage all students to revisit their courses throughout the break on Moodle or other web based resources.

After the break it always feels like a sprint to the finish line with the whirlwind of assessments, field trips and ceremonies.  As always, all of us here at Ocoee Middle School want to thank the parents and our other partners in the community for their continued support of student success. Together we can continue our intense focus on student achievement and ensuring that all students have a dynamic and positive high school preparatory experience here at Ocoee Middle School.

Cardinal Red: This Week's Faculty/Staff Highlight
Faculty/Staff Member: Stephanie Stynes (ICT)

As you know, I am new to Ocoee Middle School. As a result, I have had limited interactions with teachers and faculty. That being said, I would like to nominate Ms. Stynes for the Cardinal RED award. Ms. Stynes has gone out of her way to make sure that I felt welcome as I joined the Ocoee Middle School team. She checks in on me regularly and offers tips and tricks to help with some day-to-day activities (such as progress report deadlines) that may seem easy to some, but are easily overlooked by those (like me) that are making a career change in the middle of the school year.  It is apparent that her students have a tremendous amount of respect for Ms. Stynes as well, based on the interactions that I see her have in the hallways between periods.

I submit Ms. Stynes as my nominee for this week's Cardinal RED as a way of saying "thank you" for her assistance in my transition to the world of education.

OMS Girls' Basketball Playoffs

The OMS girls' basketball team played on both Monday night and Wednesday night this past week, wrapping up their amazing season! On Monday, March 13th, the girls' team defeated Gotha Middle School for a chance to play for the County Championship! The Championship game was held on Wednesday, March 15th at Oak Ridge High School against Avalon Middle School. With our Boys & Girls Club After School Zone providing transportation for many After School Zone students, the Cardinal fan section was loud and proud throughout the entire game! The Cardinals played hard until the very end, but sadly came up short of the victory. With or without that final win, we are extremely proud of our County Championship Runner-Up girls' basketball team and would like to congratulate them for all of their success this season. Go Cardinals!

Sixth Grade Student Immunizations

All current 6th grade students (7th grade students for the 2017-2018 school year) need the Tdap (Tetanus) shot prior to the first day of school. These shots must be recorded on the original Florida Certificate of Immunization (HRS 680) form.

The Tdap Shot documentation is required by the state of Florida in order to attend 7th grade.

Please contact your physician with any questions. All documentation should be turned into Irma Montalvo, registrar in the main office. For any questions, please call 407-877-5035 Ext. 5212106.

Seventh Grade Math Classes

In our effect to supply as many resources as possible to ensure success for all students, our math teachers have made available FSA practice quizzes and help videos on the 7th grade advance Moodle Page!  This will be extremely helpful for all 6th and 7th grade students who are taking regular or advanced 7th grade Math.

Parents, we encourage you to help your child access and use this recourse over spring break in order to better prepare them for the upcoming state assessment. Thank you! Through our partnership we can continue our intense focus on student achievement!
