Message from President Sara Beacham
|
|
Greetings!
Hello Soroptimists! I want to wish our organization another Happy Birthday! Here’s to the next 100 years.
This week has some big things happening. Our club retreat is scheduled for Saturday, October 16. This year we are fortunate to have it local at the Chico Family Masonic Center from 9 am to 3 pm. This club retreat details can be found later in the eblast, but as a teaser, there will be fun, learning, and sisterhood. I will be sharing more information on the President’s Project and Dream It Be It. Hope to see you there!
I am really looking forward to a little dance party at Retreat, too. President-Elect Kathy has offered her house for a Retreat SUDS after we are done. She lives just down the street a few blocks. What a great way to spend the day!
**Just a reminder that our club follows Butte County Public Health guidelines around COVID-19 protections. This means that masks are required for unvaccinated individuals indoors and highly recommended for vaccinated individuals indoors.**
This week we have a great speaker from the Bidwell Mansion with a program about “Yours for Equal Justice”. I can’t wait to hear more on Wednesday.
That’s all for now. I am saving all my good stuff for Saturday!
See you Wednesday,
President Sara

Sondra Murphy spent her formative years in Chico, often wandering through the Bidwell Mansion during its renovation era in the 1960s and 1970s. She has since lived all over California while raising four daughters and having a variety of occupations. Moving back to her hometown after 30 years, Murphy landed a park aide position at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park. Primarily a tour guide, during the pandemic she began assisting Northern Buttes District’s museum curator with the many needs of the artifacts and collections. Finding her dream job so late in life, Murphy plans to haunt the mansion when she dies.

PERFECT TIME TO SHOP FOR GIFTS
We are looking for wonderful donations from you, our members, to make this a successful event.
We do need some special items, experiences or services to be part of our Live auction (minimum value $100.00).
Please consider putting together a group of things in a basket, cute box, or perhaps use a base item such as a platter or large bowl and then add additional small things that are part of a similar theme, all wrapped in cellophane, with a festive bow.
If you can offer a gift of an experience or service, that would be most welcome.
TIMELINE
BY NOV 10: Please bring your item to club or request that we pick it up from your location.

October SI Chico Fur Baby (and Member) of the Month!
We are pleased to introduce the club to Foxy Lady and Lucy, Joyce’s fur babies. Foxy Lady, aka, Miss Fox is a Pomeranian and is approximately a year and a half. Foxy Lady was lost on the streets of Chico and came to live with Joyce as a foster on Thanksgiving Day last year. Foxy Lady wasn’t wearing a collar and hadn’t been chipped. After no luck in finding Foxy’s humans, Joyce knew she couldn’t live without her, so on Christmas Day, Joyce decided to be her fur-ever mom. Joyce named her Foxy Lady because she looks like a little Fox. Foxy’s new sister is Lucy. Lucy is a 4-year-old Pom/Chi that needed to be re-homed. We did a meet and greet July 21, and it was love at first sight for both fur babies. They are now inseparable. It was hard for Lucy’s past parent to re-home her, but after seeing her with Foxy, he knew he had found the right home for her. Foxy Lady and Lucy have brought so much love and happiness back into Joyce’s life after losing Rudy last year who was her fur baby for 12 years.
Besides being a dog lover, SI Chico Communications Committee Co-chair Joyce keeps busy with her business, Joyce Brown Marketing Online Consultant. She maintains SI Chico’s website, is Editor of our weekly Eblast, Editor of our quarterly newsletter the Snail, Roster Coordinator, creates all our Evites, Sign ups, Surveys and other activities as needed. She is active in the Chico Elks Lodge #423 and is a Past Exalted Ruler (PER) of Murrells Inlet Elks Lodge #2797 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Joyce has one daughter, 3 granddaughters, 2 great-granddaughters, and 1 great-grandson that all live in Merced.
