NEWS & UPDATES

Join the Christmas Tree Committee

The annual Christmas in Davidson Rotary Giving Tree Village fundraiser is vital to supporting SCC’s mission. Last year was a great success, as we were honored to receive first place in voting- securing important funding for our work!

We need your help! Please consider volunteering for the Rotary Christmas Tree Committee this year. There will be many opportunities to help throughout the months of October, November, and December.

All talents and abilities and schedules welcome! Please send an email to seniorslkn@gmail.com indicating you are interested in helping with this year’s SCC tree along with your best contact information.

We know this will be another successful year with your help and generosity. Thanks in advance for all of your dedication and support.

Souper Sunday Supper

Thank you to Natalie Heling for hosting a lovely, intimate meal for our SCC community. Fall is a cozy time to gather with friends and enjoy each other's company. We hope you will join one of our upcoming suppers.

KnowHow is a free, decision-support and personal advocacy program that helps SCC members live life on their terms by knowing what they don’t know. KnowHow doesn’t make the decision. It makes the decision you make, better!

Determinants of a Quality Life in Retirement

and How They Affect More Than Just You!

Medicare | Social Security | Planning with End-in-Mind

Weds., Oct 12, 1-2:30p

(space limited to first 14)

WHAT: 90-minute presentation/dialog on 3 key life anchors

WHY: Perhaps you’re thinking –

Medicare: “done that”

Social Security: “done that”

End-of-Life Planning: “don’t need that, my lawyer has all”

Once these decisions are initially made, many folks don’t revisit them, ever! Annual and life events may suggest otherwise. Like the “boiling frog syndrome,” slow burning ramifications can degrade health, wealth and autonomy over time.

Come join us to learn where pitfalls and confusion often reign and how a re-look (or first look) can matter to you and, importantly, your family too.

Social Bridge: A bit rusty? No problem.

Join us for a Social Bridge. "Two components of bridge promote healthy aging and therefore make it an ideal game for seniors. Bridge provides 1) a cognitive workout and 2) an opportunity for social interaction. The combination of these two key components sets bridge apart from many other leisure time activities for fostering a happy, active, and healthy brain."-The Second Half: A Lifelong Learning Institute.

We're looking for players who may be rusty....even very rusty...but know the basics to play. If we have a table of four or more we'll set a time and day soon to meet at Beth's house to give it a try. Contact Beth at bethmillerquinn@gmail.com

Yoga & Meditation: Tuesday & Thursdays at 9am

Make time to take care of yourself. Join our volunteer, Laurie Walker, for meditation and/or yoga online. In addition to whatever is going on in your personal life, we are all living in the middle of so many converging issues – health, geopolitical, environmental, and more. If we are going to thrive – we have to increase our resilience. Regular yoga practice is a powerful vehicle to do just this.

You will find tools of breath, movement, and meditation that promote a sense of cal resilience.

  • Yoga classes are on Zoom Tuesdays and Thursdays from at 9:00 a.m. EST.*
  • Meditation Circle meets Tuesdays at 10:15 EST.*

SCC members receive complementary access to the courses. Email Laurie for more info. at laurie1059@gmail.com

For many SCC programs, reservations are not required, but are appreciated. To RSVP or for questions email Sue Winter Hallman at seniorslkn@gmail.com
SENIOR LIVING

Cooking Tip

The fall is the perfect time to start enjoying cozy, comfott foods. While in the kitchen, there are many ways to stay proactive when it comes to safety.

Here's a tip to help make cooking easier:  If you struggle with arm or grip strength, place a strainer or mesh basket inside of the pot. Add food in. When ready to serve, just lift the strainer or mesh food basket from the pot.
