R4R Training Overview


  • R4R Ready For Re-Entry Training prepares participants to be effective supports for men and women returning to our communities from prison and jail. The R4R training addresses potential challenges, issues, and the rewards of assisting returning citizens.


  • You will become familiar with Maine Department of Corrections(MDOC) Case Workers, Probation Officers, and staff to learn about the system from the DOC's perspective and best practices when communicating with DOC and returning citizens.


  • We will learn more about the continuum from arrest to court, to pretrial options, treatment courts, jail and beyond. Presenters include Police Chiefs, Sheriffs, District Attorneys, Maine Pretrial Services, jail staff, options liaisons, attorneys, and more.


  • We will address substance use and mental health challenges, ACES, and the treatment & support available in our communities. presenters include Tri-County Mental Health, Better Life Partners, Healthy Acadia, Bruce King and Lisa Pouliot (ACES), and more.


  • Throughout the training you will hear from folks with the lived experience of incarceration, recovery, and successful re-entry. Separate workshops will address basic information around the higher rates of mental health and substance use challenges faced by this population, presented by experts in their fields, and how to access these resources in your community.


  • Additional workshops feature Peer Support, Recovery Coaching, and Peer Recovery Support (PRS).


  • "Through the Lens" of individuals re-entering their communities, employment resources, and common housing resources. Fun, relational exercises and peer re-entry dos and dont's discussion round out the training.
