October / November Edition

A Message from the Mayor

The City of Vaughan is excited to bring back a beloved holiday tradition this year - the Santafest Parade!

This festive event will take place on Sunday, November 30 and will feature holiday-themed floats, marching bands, entertainers, and of course – a visit from Santa Claus himself!

The parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting at the intersection of Springside Road and Melville Avenue, travelling north on Melville Avenue, then east on Major Mackenzie Drive, ending at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).

Roads along the parade route will be closed on Sunday, Nov. 30 from 12:30 p.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m. Residences and businesses located on these roads will be impacted. Signage will be in place to guide traffic through detour routes.

Want to participate in the parade – there’s still time to sign up! Schools, community groups, sports teams and businesses interested in participating in this year’s parade with floats, marching bands, walking groups or mascots now have until Friday, Nov. 14 to register.

I hope to see you at the parade to kick off the holiday season!

UPCOMING EVENTS

IN THE NEWS

Vaughan has always been a safe community, but too many of our residents have told me directly that they’re anxious and afraid because they’ve seen more criminal activity. This is completely unacceptable to me and I will do everything I can to keep our residents safe. That’s why Deputy Mayor Jackson and I are taking unprecedented action to ask the City to fund more crime-fighting cameras. At the same time, I will keep pushing the federal government for real bail reform and a strengthening of our criminal justice system. In the meantime, we are doing everything we can to get the criminals off our streets and behind bars where they belong.

City of Vaughan takes action to address coyote concerns

The City of Vaughan is taking proactive steps to address growing concerns about coyote activity in local neighbourhoods.

On September 22, 2025, Vaughan Council approved a motion brought forward by Councillor Gila Martow to hire qualified, licensed trappers to capture and remove problem coyotes. This decision reflects Council’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety and peace of mind of Vaughan residents.

Following this direction, the City has now retained a qualified trapper, and work to address the issue has begun. The City remains focused on finding effective, responsible solutions to manage wildlife interactions and maintain community safety.

Residents who encounter coyotes or have concerns about their presence are encouraged to report sightings and interactions to Vaughan Animal Services (VAS):

  • Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – 905-832-2281, ext. 2025 or 905-303-2025
  • After hours and on Sundays – 905-832-2281

The City of Vaughan continues to take this matter seriously and is committed to working with residents to ensure our neighbourhoods remain safe and livable for everyone.

We’re growing our urban forest, one tree at a time! The City of Vaughan is planting thousands of new trees across the city thanks to nearly $2 million in funding from the Government of Canada’s 2 Billion Trees Program, delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative through the Green Municipal Fund.

The City of Vaughan is pleased to officially open the Millway Avenue Linear Park in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre!

Celebrations were held this morning at the park, located at 25 Millway Ave., to mark the completion of this $1.5-million project. Learn more about the new park in the City’s news release or by visiting vaughan.ca/parks.

The City of Vaughan celebrated another milestone in the development of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, with the official groundbreaking of the first phase of its North Urban Park (70 New Park Place). A groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the start of construction of this $20-million project funded by the City. RECAP FROM SEPTEMBER

Speed cameras will be GONE across Ontario.

Premier Doug Ford and I are on the same page.

We both want drivers to slow down and keep vulnerable road users safe, but there are better ways to do it than relying on cash-grab machines.

Vaughan cancelled its speed camera program, and I am glad to see Premier Ford provide clarity on the program across the province.

The Government of Ontario is also providing municipalities like ours with financial support to help introduce other traffic-calming measures that will make a difference without making residents pay more.

In Vaughan, road safety will always be a priority.

We will continue to protect vulnerable road users, while focusing our attention on fighting real crime and going after real criminals.

It’s official – the enhanced Southview Park is welcoming the community back with improvements everyone will enjoy!

Celebrations were held on Sept. 17 at the park, located at 1 Southview Dr.. The event included a ribbon-cutting, an interactive DJ and free ice cream. Learn more about the enhanced park in the City’s news release or by visiting vaughan.ca/parks.
