El Palo Alto: Our Tree, Our History

Every fall, Canopy and partners bring students from Walter Hays School to El Palo Alto park to learn about the historical and ecological significance of El Palo Alto, the 1,000 year-old redwood after which the City of Palo Alto was named.

This year, Canopy used the Globe Observer app to measure El Palo Alto’s height. The stately redwood measures at 110 feet.

We loved the students’ enthusiasm for the lesson and couldn’t resist sharing a sweet thank you card from one of the students!
