Peter says, " Are you interested in participating in a limb loss research study?"

A researcher at the University of Hartford is looking for amputees to assist in a study. If you know someone who might be interested in helping please forward them this information.
  • You are eligible if you have used or are using a prosthetic lower limb.
  • The purpose of the study is to improve knowledge assessment and education related to prosthetic use in the United States.
  • Participants in the study will answer questions and use a smart device.
  • The study is being conducted by researchers in the Rehabilitation Science Department at the University of Hartford.
  • The test will last about 75 minutes.
  • You are eligible for monetary compensation for your time.
  • Testing can occur before or after your appointment at your convenience, at the location of your prosthetist.

If you have questions about your rights as a research subject, please contact the University of Hartford Human Subjects Committee (HSC) at 860-768-4721. The HSC is a group of people that reviews research studies and protects the rights of people involved in research.

Questions for Peter?
Vacuum Assisted Sockets

Our patient Paul is a 55-year-old transtibial amputee. His prosthesis has been fabricated using the Otto Bock Triton Harmony foot with a vacuum system.

Paul owns a machine shop and is able to stand on his feet all day at work. Thanks to the vacuum system stabilizing the volume of his residual limb Paul is able to use his prosthesis for over 12 hours with minimal adjustments on a typical day.

For more information on the Otto Bock Triton Harmony foot feel free to look at the Otto Bock website.
Achilles is a licensed provider of the HiFi socket system profiled on Good Morning America. The socket system is a terrific advance for both upper and lower limb socket design.
