Hello, Fellow Auctioneers!

Fall is in full swing, and auctions are happening daily across our great state! It seems like auction companies everywhere are staying busy, and we continue to see strong prices for quality merchandise and great South Dakota farmland.

With harvest season also underway, please keep all of our farmers and ranchers in your thoughts and prayers for a safe and bountiful harvest.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who competed, helped, and attended our annual SDAA Bid Calling Contest at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron! Dawn Luckett and Clayton Keck did a tremendous job with the clerking and getting everything organized and set up, and I can’t thank them enough.

I also want to recognize the many SDAA members who stepped up to help ring, hold up items, set up, tear down, and even bid! Your help certainly did not go unnoticed, and once again—THANK YOU!

We had a great field of 12 contestants from across South Dakota, ranging from seasoned veterans to first-time competitors. It was great to see everyone step up to the microphone and represent the auction industry!

And finally, a BIG congratulations to Sam McCloud of Hoven, our 2026 SDAA Bid Calling Contest Champion, on taking home the buckle! Congratulations, Sam!

Remember, every two years your SD Real Estate License is up for renewal. In the state of SD, you need 24 hours of continuing education every two years. A minimum of 12 hours must be required hours. To check to see if you need extra hours or to see if your license is up for renewal: CLICK HERE!

Kelbi Dean-Messmer: Kelbi obtained her Real Estate Broker Associate license in March of 2022, is a 2016 graduate from Continental Auction School and graduated from South Dakota State University in 2018 with a degree in Ag Business with a Minor in Animal Science and Marketing. Kelbi joined the Dean/Edwards crew in 2007 starting as a Ringman during live auctions and now works as a Real Estate Broker Associate, Personal Property Auctioneer and an Online Auction Specialist focusing on Online and Social Media Marketing. She works along side both her Father & Mother (Justin & Lori) who are both Hall of Fame Members in the SDAA!

Jon Sweeter: In 1985 Jon joined Sweeter Auction Service as an auctioneer upon graduation from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City, Missouri. Jon obtained his real estate salesman's license in 1985 and his SD Real Estate Brokers license in 1989. Jon is also a Broker/Owner of Ameri/Star Real Estate, Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD. Jon worked along side his father, Don, who was a founding member of SDAA and Hall of Fame Member.
