✨ Shining Through Change: Thriving in Every Season

September came and went in the blink of an eye, and I’ll admit—I missed getting a newsletter out. Honestly, life was a lot last month. Between back-to-school routines with Logan, stepping back into work after my dad’s passing, and juggling all the everyday “life happens” moments, I had to give myself some grace.

September was also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️ —a time that always holds deep meaning for our family. While I didn’t get to share a newsletter, I was still living the mission in so many ways. We raised over $20,000 at the 8th Annual Logan Cup (Logan Strong Foundation) to support families in the fight against childhood cancer. We also hosted the 3rd Annual Special Needs & Disabilities Expo, which was a huge success, bringing together families, resources, and community partners to make sure no one walks this journey alone.

And on a personal note, Logan continues to amaze us. He had his Mickey button removed on August 22 (on my birthday 🎉) and is officially eating 100% by mouth after almost eight years. He also rode the BIG bus for the very first time this school year 🚍—a milestone that may seem small to some, but for us, it was monumental.

Amid all of this, I’ve also been working on something very close to my heart—the very first Ocho children’s book. If you’ve been part of our journey, you know Ocho the octopus has been a constant source of comfort for Logan, and now I get to bring that story to life for other kids and families. Stay tuned—it’s coming soon! 🐙💛

All of this reminded me that even when life feels heavy, there’s always light breaking through. Which brings me to this month’s theme: Thriving Through Transitions. Because fall is full of change—and with the right tools and mindset, we (and our kids) can navigate it with strength and grace. 🍂

Feature: Helping Kids Navigate Seasonal Shifts

🎃 Sensory-Friendly Halloween Tips: Costumes, candy, and crowds can be overwhelming. Choose soft, tag-free costumes, limit noisy environments, and have a safe “chill-out” spot ready if things get too much.

🕒 Routine Adjustments: With shorter days and cooler weather, moods and energy levels can shift. Keeping a consistent bedtime and mealtime schedule helps kids feel grounded when everything else is changing.

📅 Managing Busy Schedules: Fall often means more school events, sports, and holidays. Don’t forget to protect downtime—sometimes a “no plans” night is the best way to recharge the whole family.

Tools & Resources:

This month, I want to share a coaching win: one parent told me their child used a simple “change chart” with picture cues to prepare for the shift from summer to fall. What seemed like a small step lowered meltdowns, gave their child more independence, and gave the family a sense of calm.

It’s a powerful reminder that little strategies can create big breakthroughs. And when one family thrives, it inspires others to try new approaches too.

💃 Big News: I’m Dancing for Logan!

On Saturday, November 1, I’ll be hitting the ballroom floor (yes, seriously!) as a featured dancer in Dancing with the Capital Region Stars 💫—and I’m dancing for the Logan Strong Foundation! This event is not only close to my heart, but it's a chance to shine a spotlight on childhood cancer and raise critical funds for our mission.

🧡Thriving Through Transitions: Fall Edition

As we step into October with all its changes, I’m reminded that transitions—whether big milestones like Logan’s or everyday shifts in routines—are opportunities to grow, connect, and celebrate the little wins along the way. 🍂

🍁 What’s your favorite seasonal tradition? Whether it’s pumpkin carving, apple picking, or cozy movie nights, I’d love to hear how your family celebrates fall in ways that include everyone. Reply back and share your ideas—we can all learn from each other and make this season one of thriving, not just surviving. 💛

P.S. Don’t forget to stay connected! Follow along on social media for updates on the Logan Strong Foundation, sneak peeks of the Ocho children’s book 🐙, and more ways we can thrive together.
