Yard Sale Success
We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated items, lent a hand during the sale, loaded cars, delivered furniture, and stayed or showed up to help clean up. Your generosity and teamwork made this year's event a true success! Special thanks to the VanVaulkenburghs for going above and beyond. Together, we raised an incredible $6,373.01 for our local Missions!! Thank you for making all this happen!!
The Brunswick Stew sold a total of 276 quarts . Special thanks to Karen and Jeff Brown for organizing this huge effort! Thanks to the Youth Group that came and cut vegetables, to all who cooked chicken, and all who showed up to stir the kettles!! The final amount of sales was roughly $1900.00. These monies support our Scout teams here at HUMC.

Help Us Harvest the Apples!
Please help us meet our fundraising goal for the Fall by donating during the month of October! Ms. Debbie will be taking a pie to the face for every $1,000 raised! We accept cash or check (please include "Preschool" in the notes/memo of the check).
Our 4s class and Pre-K class had the opportunity to visit Johnson's Apple Orchard last week for a field trip. They have been learning about how apples grow and are harvested, and got to experience it firsthand!

Rise Against Hunger
Rise Against Hunger works in countries worldwide to fight hunger. You have an opportunity to be involved in our meal packaging event on Sunday, October 19. All ages and all physical abilities are welcome. There are several different tasks to be accomplished, including sit-down jobs for those who might not want to stand for two hours. In addition to those who will help package the meals following worship (11 to 1), we also need several strong individuals (able to lift up to 50 pounds) to commit to helping with setup (8:30 to 10) and/or cleanup (1-1:45). You will find all those options on the registration page: http://events.riseagainsthunger.org/HeritageUMC2025. There is also a liability and waiver form there. We need as many volunteers as possible to sign the registration waiver online in advance. We also need to know how many volunteers to expect, so Rise Against Hunger can bring the appropriate amount of equipment. For monetary donations to fund this event, please click on the address below. Thank you for helping those facing hunger.

Coats for Kids
The Missions Team is sponsoring a Coats for Kids drive for the children at Bridges Treatment Center to run from October 8 through
November 2. There will be a collection box for new or gently used coats and jackets for youth of all sizes located outside the church office (please do not use the coat rack). Bridges Treatment Center serves boys and girls from ages 6 to 17; often these children come to reside at the center without a coat of any kind, and this need is especially critical as the weather gets colder. Thank you for supporting these youth who are at a crossroads in life, please keep them in your prayers.
For questions, please contact Susan Jones @ 434-941-3085

These names will be acknowledged during the All Saints’ Day worship service on November 2nd. Please consider supporting this worthy mission project on behalf of
women, children, and youth.

Miriam's House has just announced an update. In response to the rising numbers of families experiencing unsheltered homelessness and a critical lack of shelter options, we have made the decision to convert our building at 409 Mahnolia Street into an emergency family shelter in early 2026.More details to come.

Welcome Center on Sunday Mornings!
We are seeking volunteers to help with our Sunday morning hospitality. On Sunday mornings, snacks, coffee, and water are available in the Welcome Center before each service. Pre-packaged snacks are readily available and should be supplemented with fresh items you can easily pick up at your local grocery store. Folks who sign up need to have the Welcome Center ready at 8:45 and clean up after the worship service.More volunteers are needed to buy and put out the snacks on Sunday mornings, make the coffee, and clean up after the worship service (typically takes 15 minutes). More specific directions will be posted in the hospitality kitchen off the narthex. If you can help with hospitality this way, please click the link HERE. Thank you!
