100 years of Allen House. 65 years of Chapel: Brokenness into Beauty
At this year’s Annual Parish Pignic, we commenced our year-long celebration of the Chapel Story, with a toast given by The Reverend David Dill.
Beginning one-hundred years ago in 1923, Marie Allen rebuilt her more modest “cottage” out of the very same bricks she used to build the mansion with her ex-husband in 1909.
Roughly sixty-five years ago, Chapel of Our Saviour was born from her family’s benevolent gift to the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado. (Details to be revealed later!)
Last Sunday, we enjoyed barbeque prepared in the MOAB (Mother Of All Barbeques), a converted elevated water-tank for the Allen House. Birdie Lowery and a legion of others have used that barbeque to feed our congregation for 28 of the 31 past years of Pignics.
We have a rich history of individuals who have been instrumental in making our church and the community the spiritual place it is today. Cheers and thank you to all of the entrepreneurs!
In the year ahead, we’ll feature the fascinating history of Chapel of Our Saviour, our beautiful grounds, and the Colorado Springs movers-and-shakers who laid the foundation for the ministry our church conducts today.
