Voter Suppression and Expansion:
A Tale of Two Americas
Presented by
Viviane Harte
League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson
Saturday, October 12, 2024, 3 pm
Room 203, Continental Shopping Plaza, Green Valley
| |
In this compelling talk, we’ll dive into the heart of the ongoing battle over voting rights in the United States. Some states are enacting laws that tighten voter access—often citing security concerns—while others are implementing reforms aimed at expanding voter participation.
We'll explore the methods used to suppress the vote, from restrictive ID laws to limits on mail-in voting and early voting hours. At the same time, we’ll identify the states embracing voter expansion with policies like automatic voter registration, extended early voting periods, and vote-by-mail options.
| |
|
This presentation will not only uncover the strategies behind voter suppression and expansion but also examine the broader impact on democracy. Who benefits? Who is left out?
A past President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson, Vivian Harte is currently their Program Chair, Speakers Bureau Chair, and the editor of their newsletter. She is also the Chair of the Communications Committee of the League of Women Voters of Arizona.

WE CARE Campaign in October:
Community Food Bank of Green Valley
| |
|
Holiday season is just around the corner. The Food Bank would especially appreciate traditional holiday items so their clients can plan ahead for a festive Thanksgiving and Christmas.
All items should be unopened and in good shape, (although torn boxes with intact inner packaging are okay).
Cranberry Sauce
Gravy
Cornbread
Stuffing mix
Cake mixes and frosting
Pie crust mix
Canned pumpkin
Instant mashed potatoes
Sugar
Flour
Other non perishables that you like for the holidays.
Normal food bank staples like peanut and other nut butters, canned meat, chicken and fish, soups and other items with pull tabs, etc. are also appreciated. Low sodium items are especially needed.
They also distribute cold and frozen items, but don’t bring these to HQ, please take them directly to the food bank at 250 Continental Rd., between 7:30 and 2, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday but NOT Thursday.
Please bring your donations to HQ and put them in the blue wagon. You may also bring your contributions to any program meeting.
Thank you!
Judy Knape, VP Headquarters
