Praying for All of You

I participated in an interesting gathering this past week. On Tuesday, the staff of St. Luke’s gathered at about 10:15 a.m. with a candle and a small metal cross. Present were music ministers, vestry members, clergy, and office staff. We walked through the entire church. We went to each room-conference room, office staff rooms, music space, youth rooms, IT room, financial room, and worship spaces. In each room a person prayed prayers they had prepared. Most of the prayers were for you. We prayed that when you enter this space you will be visited by the Holy Spirit and that the love of Christ-and his acceptance of you in this space may be blessed. We also prayed for protection from any residual or present evil influences that, as we know, always hover over sacred spaces and holy communities.

So I want you to know how much we all care about your personal lives. This is a large church with a diversity of personalities -and all of you bring your own backgrounds and stories, joys and sorrows to this place. You are also unique children of God and part of this worshipping community, no matter your social status, or whether you are a person of wealth or poverty. You may have strong faith, or you may be struggling with your faith. No matter-you are welcome here.

I also want you to know that the current staff-musicians, office staff, clergy, custodian (sexton), financial team, vestry members, and volunteers are centered on Christ and how Jesus and the Holy Spirit are working in your life. Yes, your life. So may you know that as of this past Tuesday this church has been cleansed and blessed-almost every inch of it. And all who serve here in leadership / administrative positions have dedicated themselves personally to serve Jesus and to make this a positive place where you may meet the living Lord. May the Holy Spirit surround and bless all who work and pray in this church.

Associate Interim Rev. Jim Schubert
St. Luke's Becomes a Concert Hall

Hello, St. Luke’s congregation.
I do not know who designed the sanctuary for St. Luke’s nor am I aware of their insights as to how else our Sanctuary might be used. We are blessed to have such a wonderful church in which we can bring wonderful music to all of you.
This coming Saturday, October 9, the Prescott Chorale will present its first performance since Christmas 2019. The singers are so excited about the music and I wanted to invite all of you to come and experience St. Luke’s as a concert hall. As Music Director of St. Luke’s, it is my responsibility and joy to bring you beautiful music outside of worship. Between now and April of next year you will be able to hear many performing groups:
The Prescott Chorale, The Camerata Chamber Singers, The Arizona Philharmonic plus several other guest artists.
We are so fortunate to have people that value the arts and have contributed to the music program by providing the grand piano, two organs, and handbells.
On October 9, the Prescott Chorale will sing three wonderful pieces of music:

A Serenade to Music - Vaughn-Williams
A Requiem for the Living – Dan Forrest
My Country Tis of Thee – Dan Forrest
This is such inspiring music. Please join us at 2:30 pm on Oct. 9. Tickets are available through the Yavapai College ticket office or the Chorale website: prescottchorale.org.

I will look for you on Saturday in the audience. Plan on coming at 2 for the concert preview.

The Gift of Sharing: Stewardship Reflection

In this new season of Stewardship and discovery, we are called to reflect on the cycle of abundance and focus our attention on all the gifts God gives us. As we share our gifts through the Eucharist and through our service to the world, we participate in the ongoing creation of abundance and generosity.

Please plan to attend one of the upcoming town hall meetings:
Sunday, October 17, at 9:10 a.m. in the Parish Hall
Sunday, October 17, at 11:15 a.m. in the Parish Hall

Prison Ministry: Assistance to a 40-year-old woman being released

Many of you heard and were inspired by Deacon Gay Romack who preached at St. Luke’s a couple weeks ago. As some of you know she has created Magdalene House located in West Phoenix where six women released from Perryville Prison are able to reside for two years surrounded by the support they need to reenter society. Much of this support comes from a non-profit organization called Bridges Reentry, also created by Deacon Gay.

A woman who is going to be released in a couple weeks needs our help. She was from the Prescott area, but in the short term will be either in Tucson or Phoenix. We can be of assistance to her by donating the following items (clothing items may be new or gently used):
  • XL Tops
  • Size 16 clothes
  • Bra – 38D
  • Shoe size – 9 ½
  • Hair ties
  • Tampons
  • Pads
I have a black bin with a yellow top which I have placed on the table I set up last Sunday. I appreciate any help you can provide for this woman who is trying to rebuild her life. Thank you!!
Also, a big thanks to those who purchased notecards created by women at Perryville Prison. We were able to raise $95 two Sundays ago due to your support!

Ushers Needed

The 8 am service and the 10 am service are both in need of Ushers. Our team is down to 8 members at the 8 am service, and that’s using the sub that we have, needing 2 at each service, you can do the math and we have no subs when ones are gone or ill. The 10 am service is somewhat the same in terms of numbers. We have 15 currently on the team, down from 30 in past years, with 4 serving each Sunday, again, you can do the math. When there is a 5th Sunday, that makes it all the more difficult to schedule when we don’t have subs available.

The duties are easy and we have current Ushers to help teach you.

As we are continuing to open the services to more parishioners, we need to increase our Usher team. If you were once an Usher before “pandemic days” and would like to start again, we need you.

The duties are much the same as before, with just a few changes for the Covid guidance. We are still under the guidelines of the CDC and the Diocese. As we are able to open more, I’m sure those guidelines will decrease. You can offer to serve as a full-time or part-time Usher. At present, we need both.

Let me give a big THANK YOU to all who currently serve whether it be regular or substitutes in all the services. They are appreciated so very much.

God Bless Them.

Please call me at 928-642-2626 or email at jnjcasacchia@centurylink.net. My name is Jan Casacchia, and both Jim and I would love to talk with you.
