OICF is inviting all Orcas Island nonprofit organizations to submit grant proposals thru October 15. GiveOrcas Campaigns build awareness of local nonprofits, projects in need of support, and raise funds to bolster the programs that make Orcas a stronger and truly thriving community.

Please join the Orcas Island Garden Club as they welcome Craig Cogger to speak about soils and fertilizer use, including organic fertilizers, soil tests and interpretations, published guidance, and calculating fertilizer rates. Craig will present via Zoom but the club will gather together to view the presentation at the library.
Craig Cogger was a Soil Scientist at WSU Puyallup from 1984 until his retirement in 2015. He conducted and published research on organic farming systems and organic nutrient management, taught soils classes for Master Gardeners, and wrote WSU gardening publications. He now volunteers as a gardening educator with students and adults in Tacoma.

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, is
sponsoring voter forums for county residents to get to know the County Council candidates on the ballot for the November election.
The voter forums are moderated events during which candidates will present introductory statements and respond to questions, within time limits. All four County Council candidates have confirmed that they will attend. The League of Women Voters requires civil discourse in forums, and all questions to candidates must meet that requirement.
The meeting will be livestreamed by CNL2 (San Juan Today) at https://cnl2.com/. Community members who wish to ask questions of candidates but cannot attend in person may email their questions in advance of the forums to the League at pres.lwvsji@gmail.com. Please keep questions as succinct as possible AND note that questions may be combined or edited.

Dave appropriately titled his exhibit The Land, since he has been photographing the grand landscapes and small details of the natural environment for many years. Although he also photographs in color and loves experimenting with various techniques, Dave leans more towards black and white imagery than any other form. Dave’s exhibit features images from Washington, Iceland, Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks.
Dave grew up in Buffalo, NY; he and his wife have been Orcas residents for 25 years.

Medicare Open Enrollment Begins October 15: What You Need to Know for 2025
For most Medicare beneficiaries, the seven-week annual open enrollment period is the only time to choose a new plan. Changes made during this time will go into effect on January 1, 2025.

Orcas Island Physical Therapy
Position: Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant
Description: We are the only outpatient PT clinic on the island. As such, we see a good variety of patients, mostly orthopedic with some neuro as well. We serve a very active population here, with patients ranging in age from 6 -103. This is a full-time on-site role. The Physical Therapist Assistant will work closely with the physical therapists to provide therapy treatments, exercises, and interventions to patients. The PTA will evaluate and document patient progress and provide education to patients and their families/caregivers.
Qualifications:
- Current Washington Physical Therapist Assistant license
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in collaborative teamwork

In addition to performing cashier duties, you will oversee the cashier team, manage the checkout area, and ensure smooth operations at the front end. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while supporting, coaching, and motivating your team.
Pay & Benefits: We are hiring 2 full-time employees starting at $22.00 DOE. FT employees receive a 100% employer-paid medical benefits package after 30 days of employment. All employees receive holiday pay and paid time off. Evenings, weekends, and holiday availability are a must. Premium pay is paid for evenings and weekend shifts ($3.00 more per hour).

What You’ll Do: Plan and host events, promote products, coordinate with all departments, and assist with POS tag and signage support.
