World Mental Health Day

Whether an illness affects your heart, your leg or your brain, it's still an illness, and there should be no distinction. - Michelle Obama

World Mental Health Day is observed annually on October 10th. This awareness day brings attention to mental illness and its major effects on people's lives worldwide. First celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN), it is an international day for global health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

This year’s theme: “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change” highlights the importance of listening to the experiences of people living with mental health conditions and ensuring their voices help shape policies, support services, and workplace practices.

At the Center, our clients have been involved in the strategic planning for the organization. We also have a Peer Counselor Training Program which prepares clients to use their life experience with mental illness, combined with all of their strengths and skills, in a manner that promotes the mental health recovery of other clients who are in need of peer-based services.

In celebration of World Mental Health Day, the Center's Total Wellness Committee has been hosting a World Mental Health Week full of activities to promote well-being, connection, healthy habits, and open conversations at work. During World Mental Health Day, take a moment to do something good for your own mental health, whatever that looks like for you.

Help support our efforts as we move lives forward.
