Police Department welcomes new cadet

November 8th Election News

Vote Safe. Vote Secure. Vote by Mail!

Ballots are arriving soon! All active registered voters automatically get a vote-by-mail ballot. Ballots were mailed October 10 and will arrive in a few days.

Track your ballot at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by November 8, 2022 and received by November 15, 2022.

Don’t forget to sign and date the return envelope!

If you think it’s too late to mail, take your voted ballot and return envelope to any official ballot drop box by 8 pm, November 8, 2022. Find drop box locations in your Voter Guide or at MarinVotes.org.

Fall Concerts in the Park

Saturday, October 15, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Peri Park Green Stage

Join us on Saturday, October 15 in Peri Park for a concert by Marin Baroque! A middle school band will also perform Marimba music.

Saturday, October 29, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. 
Peri Park Green Stage

On Sunday, October 29th, a concert by the Karma Roulette Band led by Michael Smolens will take place in Peri Park. This concert will be a blend of music from Brazil, West Africa, Turkey & North India with 30 different instruments being played! It will be a benefit for Ukraine and Planned Parenthood. 

These are sponsored by the Fairfax Parks and Recreation Commission.

Virtual Tour

How are Marin residents adapting their homes to combat climate change, improve air quality, generate clean energy, and move towards a safer, healthier, greener, more resilient future?

This free, virtual Marin Home Tour features short video tours of 10 Marin homes, followed by live Q&As with homeowners. Extras include short presentations on heat pumps, induction cooking, solar + storage, rebates, and more. This event is a project of Sustainable Marin.

Are You Ready for the Great Shakeout?
Thursday, October 20th, 10:20 a.m.
Practice wherever you're standing

The Great Shakeout is an international earthquake drill that gives you the opportunity to practice how to stay safe during earthquakes. You can practice anywhere, and it just takes a minute. On 10/20/22 at 10:20 a.m. take 60 seconds to follow these steps:

  1. DROP to the ground if possible
  2. Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table
  3. HOLD ON until the shaking stops
Emergency Life-Saving Skills Training
Saturday, November 5th, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Fairfax Pavilion

Marin Medical Reserve Corps and Ross Valley Fire are hosting a free, 4-hour training for Ross Valley Residents! You'll learn how to recognize life threats in 15 seconds, protect airways, stop bleeding, hands-only CPR, and much more. Registration is required, and class size is limited, so register today!

Evacuation - be prepared

Make sure you're ready to leave your home quickly and safely in an emergency. Check out FireSafe Marin's Top 10 Ways to be Ready for an Evacuation (funded by the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority). Be safe and be fire-adapted.

Other Town and County News
PG&E helicopters continue surveying

Through the end of October, PG&E crews will be using helicopters to survey electrical equipment and the nearby vegetation throughout Northern and Central California to spot and prevent potential wildfire risk. Using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors and high-resolution imagery technology, the crew will collect data along distribution circuits within or adjacent to extreme (Tier 3) and elevated (Tier 2) wildfire risk areas.

Everyone in Marin should be signed up for AlertMarin. By signing up you will receive information specific to your address. This includes events like: 

  • Imminent flooding
  • Wildfires
  • Evacuations with life safety implications.

Marin Clean Energy Portable Battery Giveaway

Marin Clean Energy (MCE) has launched their second portable battery giveaway to support backup power for medically vulnerable residents in the event of an outage. The batteries can supply up to 3 days of clean, reliable power and will be provided at no-cost to income-qualifying customers who rely on electric medical devices. 
New Options for Supporting Mental Health in Marin

In 2020, Congress approved a new free 24/7 crisis phone number for behavioral health crisis needs nationwide. Beginning July 16, 2022 instead of dialing 911, emergency calls can be placed to 988 for urgent help in a time of mental health, substance use crisis, or even witnessing another person experiencing a behavioral health challenge.
