Any questions? Please contact Ann Bergandi, Head Usher, at (815) 252-1812 or cannieb@comcast.net.

Watch "No Vacancy" with Hope at Everglades Rec Center

Hope is excited to again offer a screening of "No Vacancy", a film based on the story of the Christian Care Center Samaritan Inn in Leesburg.

The Samaritan Inn is a transitional housing facility for homeless children and their parents or caregivers. The program is designed to help families become self-sufficient in a safe environment while teaching them life skills, supporting them as they pursue their personal goals and providing them with spiritual guidance during their journey.

About the movie: A jaded reporter demoted to a rural news bureau finds her cynicism slowly transformed when she befriends a recovering addict while working a story about a church struggling to purchase a motel to help homeless families.

Join us on Sunday, October 20 at 12:00pm after services at the Everglades Rec Center.

A variety of subs and wraps with water and coffee will be available. Tickets must be purchased in advance for $10 per person.

Smart Giving From Your IRA

A Tax-Saving Way to Help Hope Lutheran Church

Make a difference today and save on taxes. It is possible when you support our church through your IRA.

A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE 70½ YEARS OLD AND OLDER

You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $105,000) this year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Hope without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value $105,000 or less are eligible for this benefit and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference to our congregation. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.

WHY CONSIDER THIS GIFT?

  • Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference your donation is making.
  • If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your obligation.
  • You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
  • Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Please contact your financial advisor for more information.

Hope Lay Member to Join Florida-Bahamas Synod (FBS) Mission Trip to Cuba

This year, the FBS will include two lay participants in its 7-person mission trip December 5-9, 2024, to visit several congregations of the Iglesia Evangelica Unida en Cuba – Sinodo Luterano (Cuban Lutheran Church) in Santiago de Cuba.

Hope Lutheran Church Mission Outreach Team Member Laney Waller will be one of those in this group, which will also include Bishop Rev. Pedro Suarez and his wife, Asst. Bishop & Director for Evangelical Mission (South Region) Rev. Dr. Carlos Ham, Global Mission Table Chair Rev. Kathryn “Katie” Carroll, Cuba Team Chair Rev. Dr. Russell Meyer, and lay member and UF College Graduate Hannah Baradon.

The FBS goal is always to foster growth and deepen relationships with our Companion Churches and institutions using the ELCA model of Accompaniment. This particular trip will focus especially on leadership development among their churches. Despite the economic hardships in Cuba, the Cuban Lutheran Church proclaims the gospel with passion and enthusiasm.

Anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution to these congregations through this mission trip may donate up until December 1, 2024 via check to Hope Lutheran Church, with a memo noting “Global Mission, Cuba.”

25 Years of Hope Lutheran Church

As we look toward our 25th Anniversary in October 2024, we are also remembering our history! We will look back on years' past and remember some important moments in the life of our church.

Back in 2021...

After the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic had passed, Hope set about a new mission to better connect our congregation, starting with the development of our Engage digital directory. We also strategized our worship services to allow for consistent in-person worship, while continuing to provide livestreamed services. Our new website - hope4all.church - launched in February 2021.

Hope resumed our Fish Fry in 2021. In April, we held our first Hope for the Future Scholarship Awards Ceremony, and we also launched our new system of attendance by bar code. We held two Community Choral Reading Session that year as well.

Road work on 466 began in June, and Hope lost our left-turn lane. This was a large adjustment for our congregation.

On October 11, Hope's Education Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Dean Piper, passed away. The loss of Pastor Dean led to a large-scale transition in our H.O.P.E. University courses. Thankfully, because of Pastor Dean's faithful stewardship of the program, H.O.P.E. University was able to continue on!
