“Carrie” and her daughter “Kimberly” were experiencing homelessness for the first time and came to the Brian Garcia Welcome Center looking for assistance. They were fleeing a domestic violence relationship in which the abuser was both verbally and physically abusive. Carrie stated that their lives were in immediate danger. They had already contacted police, who helped with an order of protection. Carrie reported that she has no income as she has been a stay-at-home wife and mother. Her abuser also cut off her phone.
HSC Staff contacted Carrie’s cousin in Chicago, who was very glad to have them come live with her. Carrie shared that she plans to seek counseling after her arrival in Chicago for PTSD.
Carrie has her own vehicle. HSC Staff verified that she has a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, and provided gas cards to cover travel expenses back to Chicago.
HSC wishes them a safe journey and healthy future.
