OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents/Guardians,

At our recent back to school night I spoke very candidly to parents of students in grades 4-8 regarding cell phones. I shared my concerns that students are unable to monitor their own behavior when using a cell phone and frequently post statements or videos which are hurtful to others. This is a form of harassment and bullying. Since student cell phones are collected at the beginning of the school day and returned at dismissal time, the incidents that have been brought to my attention are happening after school hours. However, the effects of this type of on-line harassment are played out in school. Parents, please be reminded that you and your child have signed our family handbook, athletic code of conduct, National Honor Society code of conduct, or STUCO pledge, and these types of harassing on-line activities may lead to your child’s dismissal from a team, club or other consequence. Parents, please monitor your child’s cell activity for appropriate messages, pictures, and videos that your child shares. As the owner of the phone you are ultimately responsible for what your child is posting.  Be vigilant!

St. Rita School is currently looking for qualified individuals to fill two vacant positions -School Counselor and Advancement Director. Both of these positions are part-time between 15-20 hours a week. The role of the School Counselor is to advocate for and support every student’s academic, emotional, behavioral and social development and to assist in developing a school community where all students are safe, known, and accepted. The Director of Advancement is responsible for the oversight of alumni fund-raising efforts. More detailed job descriptions are available to interested individuals.

We are also looking for a parent volunteer to serve alongside Mrs. Robinson as the yearbook advisor. This is a volunteer position ideal for someone with strong technology skills and can be done primarily at home. Please contact Mrs. Robinson if you are interested in assisting with this project.

Today was school picture day. If your child was absent, picture retake day is scheduled for November 30.  If you have not yet ordered your school pictures you can do so on-line at mylifetouch.com (use school ID EVT7C6QKR). This Friday, October 14, class pictures will be taken and students must be in their proper winter uniform for these.

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for next week.  Conferences will be held on Monday, October 17, from 3:00-6:30, and Tuesday, October 18, from 1:00-3:30. Both these days are early dismissal days. Parents must register for conferences using the link provided by the teachers. All parents are strongly advised to sign-up for a conference to review their child’s NEWA MAP assessments, learn more about their child as a learner, and have any questions or concerns addressed midway through the first marking period. Parents in grades 4-8 will also receive a copy of their child’s midterm progress report.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Enjoy the upcoming weekend.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Luke Hamling, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 608 in Hamden, has been a scout for over eleven years, a member of St. Paul VI Parish, has served as an altar boy, and graduated from St. Rita School in 2019. His Eagle Scout project will involve renovating two of the church signs to reflect our new parish, including landscaping of those areas once the signs have been installed. He chose this project because he believes having unified signs will help with the building of community at our unified parish of St. Paul VI Parish.

To complete this project, he must raise over $9,600 in order to pay for the signs and landscaping items. He is asking the school community to assist with this effort. All monies raised will go directly to this project, and any money raised in excess of the project needs will go towards the signage needs at the other two churches which will also be renovated in the future
