October Pastor Message

Dear Parishioners,

We had a great start to the semester. What a great picnic! Preschool children are a pleasure to have each day. Religious education classes started well. Thank you to all those dedicated teachers, catechists, and parents that make faith an important part of raising our children!

The Youth Ministry is a strong group of teens this year. They brought back the teen Youth Board so that the teens could take more ownership of the group. This year, they will focus on a deepening of prayer and service, as well as building a sense of companionship.

I’d like to say a word of thanks to the parishioners who were traveling this summer and who gave extra contributions to the collection in September for those weeks they were away. I appreciate recognition that masses, preparation, and staff work still go on during the summer. Thank you.

It is a good time to be Church! Yes, there are many challenges, but the main thing is that we love God and want to support one another in the journey as we share His love and mercy with others! The world needs us and we need each other! It is a good time to be Church!

On a side note, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up and having fun. I try to focus on the lighter, positive side of this celebration (although I do like zombie and vampire costumes!). One idea is to dress up as your favorite saint or angel. I dressed up like St. Michael the Archangel one year. This year I may be looking for a beard and a set of stone tablets for my costumes this year.....

Blessings,

Fr. Pat

Speak with a Priest

  • Struggling with a life event and in need of spiritual assistance?
  • Want to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance outside the normal Confession times?
  • Trying to find your way back to engagement with the Church?
  • Discerning vocation?
  • Looking to complete your Sacraments of Initiation and wish to chat about the journey?

St. Catharine is offering the opportunity for parishioners to chat with a priest who is only indirectly engaged with the parish. If interested, please contact Fr. Mike Walsh by phone 732-780-2666 x205 or email frmike.walsh@stmaryscoltsneck.org

RCIA Information Session

We are here and ready to share the richness of our faith with you. If you’ve been looking for answers, we invite you to find out what the Catholic Church offers. RCIA is a comprehensive process, in which the Church supports and encourages the spiritual journeys of those who are unbaptized and seeking to become Catholic and those who are baptized, Catholic or in another Christian denomination, who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initiation (First Eucharist and Confirmation).

We are here to meet you wherever you are on your journey!

Youth Ministry Update

A YM meeting followed mass with a service project for the residents in Care One in Holmdel. Our bake sale will be after the 8 am, 10 am and 12 noon mass this coming weekend. Thank you for your support!

Morning of Reflection for Parish Ministers

This is an invitation to all who volunteer in the many ministries here at St. Catharine’s.

When: Saturday, October 28

Time: 9:30 AM – 12 Noon

Where: St. Catharine’s Fr. Scheg Center

We invite you to join us in fellowship & reflection as we grow more deeply in faith and understanding of how to live the Gospel. In order to be prepared, registration is necessary. Please contact your ministry head or email Sandy at smullarkey@stcatharine.net and leave your name & ministry, if you plan on attending by October 21. HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US!

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

It is our responsibility as a church to see that the sick and the aged are given the opportunity to receive the Eucharist if they are unable to attend Mass. The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion assists in this ministry. The EMHC represents Christ and is a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian Community for its member who are ill.

For more information on how to become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound contact the parish office 732-842-3963 or parishoffice@stcatharine.net

World Mission Sunday

Get Ready to Set your "Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move" for World Mission Sunday!

Next weekend, we'll unite with fellow Catholics globally to mark World Mission Sunday. As we reflect on Pope Francis' compelling theme, we're invited to enkindle the flames of Christ's love and spread its warmth to mission territories in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Prepare to support the Society for the Propagation of the Faith with prayers and generosity. Thank you for being a beacon of Christ's love!

Respect Life Month Message

“O Blessed Mother, at the angel’s word you went in haste to the aid of your cousin Elizabeth. Although pregnant yourself, you placed her needs before your own. By your example of radical solidarity, teach us to reverence and protect those in need, without conditions or expectations.”

USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities

“Prayer for Radical Solidarity" (respectlife.org/prayer-for-radical-solidarity)
