The Cold Water is coming…

As the temperature gets colder, we want to remind everyone of the Cold water rules! These are not in effect yet, but be aware that they will soon. It is very important to stay safe during the colder seasons! Look out for the blue flag to indicate that cold water rules are in effect. The Cold Water Rules are as follows:

  1. All crews/singles must be accompanied by a safety boat.
  2. No rowing past the Gatineau River.
  3. All single scullers must wear a waist personal flotation device (PFD).
  4. All 2x/- rowers must have a PFD in the shell with them.
  5. All rowers must wear a visible personal light and whistle.

Athlete Health and Wellbeing Resources

The health and wellbeing of athletes on and off the water will always be a high priority at ORC. We now have health and wellbeing resources located on our website. We have included topics such as nutrition, mental health, hydration and lightweight specific resources, with more to come in the future!

If there are any other topics related to athlete health and wellbeing you would like to see added to the athlete resources, or have any questions related to the content, please send an email to our Athlete Representative, Meghan Jolley at athlete.representative@ottawarowingclub.com.

Winter Training at the ORC!

Get ready for the ORC’s inaugural indoor winter season on site! While there are still a few hiccups to overcome logistically, the ORC board is actively pursuing avenues to ensure the our membership can train on site this winter!

We are currently trying to find suitable snow removal and heated portable washrooms. We would appreciate any information from members who have industry connections. Please email rowing@ottawarowingclub.com if you have any details. Once the contracts are finalized, a winter membership pass will be available on Amelia, likely in the ~$200 range for the entire winter. This project requires a minimum number of users so please consider the ORC for your winter training options!

Club Clean-Up

ORC Club clean up will be spread over two days this year after last year’s resounding success! Clean up will take place on Saturday, November 5th from 8:30am to 12:30pm, and Saturday, November 12th from  8:30am to 12:30pm. Rowers from the Club, Masters, and Junior programs are scheduled to help on the 5th of November, and the U23, University, and Senior athletes are slotted for the 12th.

Please plan to be in attendance or negotiate alternative arrangements with your program coach.

Last Day for Private Singles! November 6th

Private singles Owners; please be aware that the last day to de-rig and move your shell indoors for the winter will be November 6th. You are more than welcome to do so ahead of time and you can coordinate this with Stewart who will be sending out a note to everyone on the rackage list shortly.

Year End Banquet: November 26. Save the date!

Save the date! We are hosting our Year End Banquet on November 26, 2022. Stay tuned for more details in future newsletters and the Discord!

In Memory of Paul Mudroch: 1955 - 2022

We are sad to announce the passing of Paul Mudroch, who fought a hard battle against glioblastoma this September.

Prior to moving back to his hometown of Hamilton, Paul was a pivotal part of the ORC family, having umpired, rowed, and volunteered for the Club and Ottawa rowing community.
