Community E-News l 10.13.24

Last Sunday, our juniors were joined by their families to celebrate their Junior Ring Ceremony, a time-honored tradition at Carondelet. This memorable milestone symbolizes the shared Sisterhood of our students and signifies their journey and advancement in becoming upperclassmen. 💍🌻 Congratulations, juniors! A Message from the Dean of Faculty:

Somehow, it’s mid-October and we’re halfway through the first semester. As Dean of Faculty, a large part of my role is visiting classrooms and seeing the magic that’s happening there. During the first quarter, students and faculty have been hard at work getting to know each other, building classroom communities, and embarking on their learning journeys together. And they’re just getting started.

As we move into the second half of the semester, fall truly arrives, along with shorter days and cooler temperatures (we hope). At the same time, the academic pace picks up, instructional rigor increases, and assignments become more complex. This is when the academic calendar seems to pick up speed, hurtling toward the end of the year. Sooner than we think, it will be Thanksgiving break, and then just a few more weeks until exams and Christmas break. During this busy period, students might need help keeping track of multiple ongoing assignments, breaking big projects into smaller steps, or managing a schedule that seems to be getting more crowded all the time. You can help by reminding your student that their teachers post everything—agendas, assignments, resources—in Schoology, just to help students keep track of all the things going on in their classes.

More good news, especially in light of the accelerating academic pace during second quarter: Carondelet’s teachers are some of the best educators around and they’re dedicated to supporting our students. Every teacher is on campus every day until 3:30 PM, and they all have regularly scheduled office hours after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If a student has a question, needs additional assistance, or just wants a little extra guidance on a project, their teachers are available to help during office hours. Please encourage your students to take advantage of their teachers’ office hours—these experts are ready and happy to help our students be successful.

Coming up this weekend is a bit of a break for students with a four-day weekend, followed by Frosh Day of Service/MAP/PSAT/Senior Workshop on Wednesday, October 16. Looking ahead, the calendar shows six weeks before Thanksgiving break, with the fun and chaos of Homecoming Week (October 21 to 26), and St. Marty’s Party (Wednesday, October 30), guaranteeing plenty of excitement on campus. In the classroom, students will be busy doing the challenging, enriching work of exploring, learning, analyzing, and practicing, with their teachers and parents working together to support them. Here’s to a productive and rewarding second quarter!

Kat Spradlin

Uniform Expectations

We are beginning a concerted effort to address the issue of skirt and short length. Skirts and shorts should fall approximately four inches above the knee. This means that hems should fall below fingertips when arms are relaxed at the sides and hems should always fall below shirts and outerwear tops.

Starting Thursday, October 17, students with three or more uniform violations related to skirt/short length will temporarily lose skirt/short privileges. We ask that parents/guardians have a conversation with their students regarding skirt/short length and confirm that their student’s uniform pieces meet our length requirements.

Reach out to Dean Main or view the recent communication for more information.

Academics & Academic & Learning Support

Special Wednesday for all students this week:

Peer Tutors available

NHS Peer Tutoring Program is up and running for this school year! With over 100 members of the National Honor Society (NHS) participating, we have a wide variety of students with expertise in multiple subjects and academic levels who are eager to assist their peers. Need A Tutor? (Form for any student looking for a peer tutor). Additionally, NHS tutors will be present at PowerLab every Monday through Thursday in the Library. If you have a student who would benefit from extra help, please remind them that a tutor specializing in Science, Math, and Language Arts will be available each day during PowerLab.

Check MySchoolBucks Accounts

As we conclude the first quarter, we want to remind all parents and guardians to log in to their student's MySchoolBucks account and check the balance. It is important to keep the account current to ensure that your student can continue receiving meals from our Café. Please note, students with a negative balance will not be able to make purchases. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
