From The Pastor's Desk...
"Dream Small."
It's the opposite of what we've been taught for sharing the Gospel.  But in a pandemic, large groups are not the safest, kindest, or best.  Yet what I am discovering at Lord of Life is that in dreaming small, like in individual drive-up communion or in outdoor Grace Place chapel time, there can be more room for connecting.  While we long for large festive crowds and being surrounded by people who mean so much to us, for now we have the opportunity to try new things on an entirely different level than before.  We can still dream and listen for God's will and seek to grow the Church - those haven't gone away.  God still works through us!  So as we face the "new now" - I invite you to dream with me, to imagine and envision how to reach our neighbors with God's presence and promise.
Here is a link to Josh Wilson's song "Dream Small" (Click Here), and you'll see here in my photo a sign that says "Communion and Blessings - All Are Welcome."

The Church isn't closed - we're just open in a new way.  Open to God's working, open to possibility, and open to God's presence with us.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Volunteers will ensure proper distancing and orderly compliance.

Project LOL:
Fall Clean-Up Day Held

On Saturday, October 10th, a group of church members arrived at Lord of Life with rakes, leave blowers, cleaning supplies, furniture polish, shrub trimmers, and of course plenty of energy and elbow grease!  The grass was cut, parking lot cleared of leaves and debris, shrubs trimmed, and fallen branches put on the curb for Fall township stick pick-up.  Indoors, the Sanctuary area was given a thorough cleaning.  The altar tile floor was washed, the woodwork polished, the pews cleaned, the carpet vacuumed, and all surfaces were dusted.  Thank you to our volunteers!

The Christian Caring Center

Our regular collection of food, toiletries, clothing and other needed items is continuing.  All food should be non-perishable and will not need refrigeration prior to opening.  With the colder weather approaching food items like canned soups, tuna fish, and canned chicken will be in higher demand.  Winter clothing items will also be needed as the temperature drops.  Our collection bins remain located outside of the main building near the kitchen entrance.
A delivery of donated items was made to Bridge of Peace on Sunday, October 4th by Betty Mastrillo.  It included 3 shopping bags of Halloween candy and a car load of food!  A delivery to the Christian Caring Center was made yesterday, October 15th, by Paul Horner.  The next delivery to the Christian Caring Center will be made on Thursday, October 29th.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
Thank you to all who have contributed!

Update From Haiti
A Message From Penny Miller:

Haiti is not immune from the spread of Covid 19.  Although many understand that they need to quarantine in their homes to be safe, many do not.  They know to wear a mask and avoid crowds when outside, but that makes their daily life style difficult.  Haitians need to work and shop for food daily. With little electricity available, most do not have refrigeration.  Prices on food and fuel have skyrocketed.  Rent for an apartment is up and many face living on the street.
Schools delayed their opening, including the Sewing Academy.  Our students began their new year in August instead of usually March.  They have all they need and are able to get to the school for class.  Things are going well at the Academy.  We  have 11 students this year.
Families are finding it more difficult to feed their children.  This has affected the census in Solace Hospital where they feed malnourished children.  Solace Hospital is the location of the Hope Alive Clinic.  They are in desperate need of Pack 'N Play portacribs  and also the sheets for them.  And there is always a need for diapers and baby formula.  They continue to make meals of natural peanut butter, dry milk, ground vitamins and clean water.  The children get this 5 times a day.  Their health improves, although slowly, and they do get stronger.
If anyone would like to contribute any of the needed items please call me, and I will gladly pick them up.
Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti.  Your support means so much to them.
Peace,
Penny Miller

A Note From Church Member
Betsy Carpenter

"Grandma, Would You Like To Have Ollie?"
This was an 80th birthday gift I didn't expect. Eight days later, on August 28, 2020, Ollie, a cockatiel, arrived at my home complete with elegant cage, toys, and food. The only thing he lacked was trust in me.

Ollie is a delightful social bird. Two years ago, my grandson purchased him at Bird Paradise, a shop filled with exotic birds that is located along Route 130 in Burlington. Sadly, the uncertainties of this new school year plus many extracurricular interests prevented my grandson from giving Ollie the attention he craves. Yes, Ollie delights in conversation and out-of-cage fun as in flying and helping me pay my credit card bill.

Wolf calls are Ollie's specialty.  Often he sings along when I play my flute. "Amazing Grace" really swings when wolf calls are added!
A veteran bird watching friend of mine recommended I read poetry to Ollie so he could become accustomed to my voice.  He listens intently when I read poems from Mary O'Neill's "Hailstones And Halibut Bones".  He also likes poems from Shel Silverstein's "Where The Sidewalk Ends."  A favorite in Silverstaien's book is titled, "The Toucan."  Its rhyme and rhythm delight him.
I've also discovered that Ollie relaxes to a couple of my CD's, "P.M. Yoga Melodies" and "Musical Meditations."  When I'm away from home, I leave one of these playing.
It's amazing to slowly but surely gain the trust of this beautiful bird, a bird who likes to have a night light left on and who may live to be 25 years old.  Guess this means that I better stay healthy because Ollie is only two years old!
Yes, Ollie is training me well!  He's the perfect antidote to the unusual time in which we live.

Welcoming Dante Christofaro!
On Sunday October 18th our online worship will include the baptism of Dante DeChristofaro.  As this is Dante's first welcome into our community, we will be collecting cards at church to pass "en masse" to the family.          If you can send or drop off a card at the Church addressed to Dante and the Christofaro Family, we will share them with the family, the equivalent of our applause and smiles!

Church member Birthday, Wedding Anniversary, and Baptismal Anniversary recognition will list names from the date of the current LifeLines edition to the day prior to the next scheduled edition.  We will try our best to be accurate, but if there is an error or omission, please email the Editors.  The link to our email is below.  Thank you!
