FROM PASTOR SARAH
Reflections for Sunday October 20th on Luke 18:1-8
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide reflections on the readings for the following Sunday.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you pray? Read Luke 18:1-8. We find a negative example, that is, Jesus tells us a story of what God is NOT like when we pray. God is not like the unjust judge who neither cares about nor respects the woman whose case is before him. Instead, we infer, God is caring, respects us, and hears us when we ask.

Last week in worship we began our new Breakthrough prayer Initiative asking God to guide us and break down any barriers we have within ourselves and our congregation. Copies of the prayer cards are available at church to take with you. Pray the prayer every time you think about it, anytime you gather with other folks from St. Paul, and especially at 5:32 am and pm.

+ What are the things that you think are "too small" to talk with God about? Try talking with God about those things for a week and see if anything happens.
+ Try to carve out 3-5 minutes more per day for prayer than you do right now. Take that time to thank God for hearing you and ask God to help you trust in God.
+ Don't forget to pray the St. Paul Lutheran Breakthrough prayer at 5:32 am and pm each day!

Family Devotion
Each week, Pastor Sarah will provide a short devotion for families based on a reading for the following Sunday.
Read: Isaiah 40:28-31
Bring it home:
These are some questions or activities to help you think and talk about the reading as a family.

+ What does this reading tell us about God?
+ When you listen to this reading, do any pictures come to your mind? Draw them and show them to Pastor Sarah or another person from church.

Pray:
Consider lighting a candle or having a cross to look at while you pray.
Have one person pray:
"Thank you, God, for making the earth and for making us. Help us to trust you. Amen."
