Message from the Chair

Hi friends!
Thanks to all the parents, caregivers, and staff (and especially the few smiling kiddos on camera!) who attended last Tuesday's virtual Site Council meeting. The draft minutes from that meeting are still being put together by our new secretary, Jessica Prince, and will be linked from the next newsletter. Please save the date for our next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9—agenda items can be emailed to me at chair@thorntoncreek.org.

I also wanted to take a minute to acknowledge those families impacted by the bus routes cut this week—as Gerrit shared via Talking Points text last week, the TC community has created this form for families to connect directly with one another for the purposes of ridesharing. If you don't rely on bus services but would be willing to help another family out with carpooling needs, please also fill out this form. This is entirely a family-to-family resource and not affiliated with SPS—hopefully it can help families lend a hand to one another during (another) difficult time.

In partnership and community,

Introducing the Thornton Creek Costume Trunk!
Volunteers are busy working out the details, but in the meantime, let's pack the trunk! Are you haunted by costumes and accessories hanging around from years past? Donate them to the students of Thornton Creek! Drop off items in the box labeled "Costume Trunk" outside the front doors of the school (or send them to the front office via your student's backpack).

Volunteer Outdoor Work Parties -- Still Time to Join the Fun!
Fall work parties to clean up and maintain the landscaping and gardens at Thornton Creek will be held one more morning this fall: Saturday Nov 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Come join this last fall work party, make connections with other parents and help keep the school's grounds looking great for all students to enjoy. Work will include weeding, mulching and planting. Volunteers must wear masks and be vaccinated (children welcome if they have been vaccinated). No experience necessary. Mark your calendar and sign up to let us know you will be there!

Flu Clinics
SPS is urging everyone to get a flu vaccine this year to protect yourself and our community. They have partnered with the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association to provide flu shot clinics for the public and schools across the city, but this is the last week! Find a date and location to schedule your flu shot at schools in the neighborhood.

Thank You
Teachers! Thank you for starting up a new year like no other before, with such care and enthusiasm. This is no small feat, and we are lucky to have you in our children's lives! We look forward to a time when we can once again be volunteers in your classrooms, on field trips, and in all the TC traditions we're missing so much in this time.
We have a tradition at our school of saying "thank you." If you would like to submit a thank-you note, send an email to submit-news@thorntoncreek.org. Thank you!
