ECA STRATEGIC PLAN SURVEY 4
Closes on October 23 at 10:00 am
Strategic plan Survey 4 was sent to your email on October 16.
The board of directors and administration of Eden Christian Academy are committed to creating a campus life experience with student activities that foster Christian fellowship that is fun, meaningful, and joyful, and that help students internalize a desire for and commitment to participating in, contributing to, and serving in Christ-centered community.
Your response to Survey 4 will help us determine what follow-up discussions, research, and focus groups need to be facilitated in order to discern what strategic goals will help us cultivate campus life worthy of a Kingdom school.
We value the time you invest in providing your feedback. To show our appreciation, each week one respondent will be awarded a CHICK-FIL-A FAMILY MEAL. Congratulations to our Survey 2 recipient, Zachary Frantik!

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
What's all this talk about test optional?
You may have noticed that some higher education institutions have gone test optional. Here's a little help as you navigate something new in the application process.
What does test optional mean?
Simply put, applicants can submit standardized test scores (a.k.a. SAT/ACT scores) or not during the application process. Generally speaking, if you choose to not submit scores, the admission committee will not take any test scores into consideration at all.
Depending on the school's approach, test scores may have or may not have been a large part of their review process. This year, if a school is test optional it typically means that they will lean more heavily on other application materials such as: personal statements, short answer questions, letters of recommendation, high school transcript, and, where available, alumni interview feedback/student interview.
Schools continue to look for students who have:
-
Taken challenging classes in the context of their high school and done well in them
-
Pursued outside-of-class educational, volunteer, or work opportunities
-
Authentically shared of themselves through their application personal statements and short answer questions
If an applicant changes his or her mind about being test optional, they may be able to update their test optional answer in the school's applicant portal. The deadlines for those changes are typically based on the school’s decision plan (i.e. early action or early decision) and provided to the student via email and in their applicant portal. The deadlines allow as much time as possible for the student to adjust their choice in consideration of their committee review timeline.
How will scores be used if the student wants them to be included?
As in prior years, most higher education institutions believe standardized test scores demonstrate academic preparation. For students who choose to submit scores, they will view the scores within the context of their entire application. Many schools will continue to “superscore" or "take the best section scores over multiple test dates" from the SAT and ACT. Many accept both self-reported and official scores sent from the test company or through ECA’s counseling office. Policies and procedures can change, so please check with the school admissions website/staff directly for most up-to-date information.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions!
