Southern Association of Independent Schools Accreditation Visit

Peabody School, as you may know, is accredited through the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). Every five years, we are required to go through a self-study and accreditation process to identify our strengths and areas of growth and to ensure that we are meeting standards of practice. During the winter/spring of the 2016-2017 school year, we initiated a series of surveys to gather information about our program from various stakeholder groups. The survey results were summarized and presented to the faculty as part of our self-study process.
Stakeholder feedback and prior recommendations, along with school based committee work, formed the basis of the goals we identified for our school report for growth.

Next week, four private school educators from other SAIS member schools will be at Peabody to observe, and talk to representatives from Peabody. The visiting team will provide recommendations for growth and suggestions on our identified areas for improvement. We are proud of our program but also know we can always strive to make it even better. We look forward to their suggestions but we are also equally excited to show off our wonderful school!
Peabody Debate Team

Peabody's inaugural Debate Club is off to a fine start. On Saturday, Kat Ravichandran, Darius Mehta, Venetia Smith, and Evelyn Lepsch participated in the Charlottesville Debate League's first tournament of the season. Our two teams traveled to Jack Jouett and went face to face with teams from other middle schools in the area. All teams debated whether colleges and universities in the U.S. should be allowed to restrict free speech on their campuses. It was a successful afternoon all around as our young team showed polish and promise. Mr. Ebersole and Mr. Merrick, along with our wonderful UVA student coaches, were quite impressed by their performances!

Admissions News

  • Open House was a great success! Many thanks to everyone who helped out with the Admissions Open House on Wednesday. We had 30 families visit, and they were so impressed with our amazing student ambassadors!  We especially appreciate our parent tour guide volunteers: Susan Blank, Susan Parmar, Marianne Kish, Kristen Davis Singh, Sharla Klingel, Sarah Krishnaraj, Julie Bird, Whitney Lyman, Heather Amato, and Kathleen Olowin. Thank you for your time and service to Peabody!

  • Deadline for Bring A Friend Day (1st-6th grades only) is Tuesday, November 7th! Public schools will be closed and this will give us an opportunity to invite prospective students for a visit following our Admissions Open House. We would like you to consider inviting students in grades 1st - 6th who would enjoy visiting Peabody and potentially benefit from a Peabody education.

  • Due to the high level of popularity of this day and limited space, we will only be able to invite students who have not already participated in BAF Day in the past.

  • Please email diane.krehmeyer@peabodyschool.org with the name, grade and parent contact/email information of a student to be invited (please check with them first to see if they are interested!)

  • Spaces for visiting friends will be assigned first come, first served. For planning purposes, the final deadline is Wednesday, OCTOBER 25th to provide the name and contact information of a student to be invited.
Parent Information Center

  • School photos will be coming to you via email in an online gallery early next week. Instructions for ordering will be given then. Please contact susan@susanparmar.com with any questions!

  • We have had some complaints from our Mill Creek neighbors that some parents have been using Mill Creek Road as a turn around in the morning to avoid the left hand turn onto Avon Street Extended. Please refrain from doing this as it does present a safety hazard for cars coming up Mill Creek Road. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Box Tops Submission Approaches! Our first Box Tops submission of the year must be mailed by October 31st. Please bring your collections to school by October 27th and place them in the box in the main entryway.
