President's Message
Northeast Indiana AHU chapter continues to rock!  Last month we held our annual golf outing raising funds for the Chapter's Public Service endeavors.  Jeff Fabini and Dotty Wiggin along with their team, Ava Lillmars, Tami Meeks, Bill Hartman, Justin Finton, Dianne Schaffner, and Ruste Pontenberg, put together a fabulous event.  The weather was ideal and the energy and excitement was definitely in the air.  This team pulled together and delivered an impressive victory!  We were able to raise over $1100 for Erin's House.  The committee is already planning next year's event. So, mark your calendars for September 15, 2017.

Congrats to Edward Judkins, Media Relations chair, for continuing to get "HITs" on our chapter's Press Releases: showcasing our September meeting with our charity gift giving and special guest speakers David Berman, ISAHU immediate past president and the Honorable James Banks.

Our Chapter had four board members attend this year's ISAHU Symposium.  The second day which focused on leadership, was especially pertinent.  Regardless of your position in your company, professional association or chapter, we are all called to be leaders.

Nancy Blake, HUPAC Chair, participated in the Region 3 telethon campaign.  She continues to reach out to past contributors and new members alike asking for their support for our legislative initiatives.  Nancy's goal is to help our members understand how their contributions help our industry and clients by educating our legislators. If you haven't made your contribution, yet, please consider doing so.  You can contact Nancy or visit the www.HUPAC.org with your support.

October is a crazy busy month for us; not only as a chapter but professionally, too.  This month we held the LIVE NAHU Webinar, host a legislative meeting, and gathered for our monthly membership meeting October 17th, with Mark Rogers from Delta Dental.

No meeting in November, but please save the date for December 20th for a chapter celebration dinner.

I wish all of you the best 4th quarter, yet!!  Go AHU Members!!!

The Rescue Mission
Laurie Brumbaugh, the Director of Development at The Rescue Mission, spoke at our October Meeting.  The Rescue Mission, founded in 1903, is a faith-based, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, providing restorative care to men, women and children experiencing a homeless crisis. Our organization serves Fort Wayne, Allen County and its nine surrounding counties. The Mission is comprised of four ministries, or houses, that function as communities of compassion. For more information about this important resource, check out their website.

Health Insurance Marketplace Agent/Broker Direct Line is Now Open
This week, the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) announced that for this open enrollment period, the individual marketplace call center will be streamlining access for agents and brokers with an enhanced Agent/Broker Direct Line.

The new direct line for agents and brokers is a progression from the additional support for agents and brokers that began last fall, and we will continue to work with CCIIO for future enhancements to the direct line.
  • Call (855) 788-6275
  • Enter your National Producer Number (NPN) when prompted to enter your ID#
    • Only registered agents/brokers with the Marketplace will be able to access this enhanced service
    • Valid NPNs will be updated weekly (typically on Fridays)
  • When a valid NPN is entered, agents/brokers will be presented with three options:
    • Password resets
    • Special enrollment periods
    • Other issues
  • Agents/brokers entering invalid NPNs will be transferred to the main Marketplace call center
Webinar on Final Wellness Regulations
Danielle Capilla, chief compliance officer at United Benefit Advisors, presented a NAHU member-exclusive Compliance Corner webinar titled "Digesting the Final Wellness Regulations and Making them Work for Employers." This webinar covered final regulations released in May by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and their impact on employer-sponsored wellness programs, as well as how they differ from the longstanding HIPAA rules relating to wellness programs.

Additionally, Danielle discussed the heightened scrutiny over wellness programs that involve biomedical screenings or health risk assessments and how wellness programs impact an applicable large employer's affordability and minimum value calculations for play or pay purposes. Agents and brokers recommending wellness programs need to understand how these rules impact wellness program structure and recommendations. You can watch the webinar  here . (You will need to log into your NAHU account to access the information.)

Our HUPAC team is just finishing a telethon to drum up financial support - if you'd like to contribute, you can contact our local HUPAC team, Nancy Blake or Denny Wright.
